    BCBG fall 2011, Imaxtree

Turtlenecks aren’t just for librarians and Roger Moore these days. The classic look can be spotted coming back with a vengeance in pre-fall and fall 2011. Lanvin’s ladies-who-lunch interpretation went back to the garment’s more conservative roots, complementing an oversized wool coat and leggings. Meanwhile, the former queen of Studio 54 Diane von Furstenberg used her retro tops like scarves, poking out of jackets and shirtdresses to add a pop of bright green or maroon. But it was BCBG who progressed past the overtones of matrons and ’70s scenesters. They layered the entire fall 2011 collection (gowns included) over skin-fitting, white turtlenecks. Not only did this give the show a sleek, sophisticated feeling, but this styling technique also highlights an effortless way to transition an outfit from day-to-evening. If you can part with the newest addition to your wardrobe, that is.

Kanye was recently the cover-boy for the latest issue of Vman. The photos were shot by none other than Karl Lagerfeld himself. While we can all agree Kanye is a tad obnoxious, his latest album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” is regarded as quite a masterpiece, and there’s no denying that the  guy certainly has style, so the cover is really no surprise. However, it is a little strange that THE Karl Lagerfeld decided to photograph Kanye West. We know that music and fashion are often intertwined, but still… So what do you think of his photo shoot?

Kirsten Dunst plays muse for designer Scott Sternberg in Boy by Band of Outsider’s spring 2011 campaign. The star previously posed for the label’s spring 2009 lookbook and video, marking an ongoing collaboration between fashion and film- especially where the young, style-concious Hollywood crowd is concerned. The ads feature mock Polaroid shots of Huntington Botantical Gardens, where Dunst (decked out in pleated skirts, silver oxfords and  linen blazers) fishes, frolics and daydreams amongst tropical plants. It’s easy to imagine that the highlight of her day is the animated tea party with a Babar-esque stuffed elephant. The other-wordly feel seems straight off a Wes Anderson set. But such quirky touches also suit Dunst, who is known for her bohemian fashion choices offscreen.

Pop culture legend Andy Warhol once said, “Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.” In the ’60s as a print maker, painter, illustrator, and filmmaker, Warhol was inspired by avant-garde, bohemian people, intellectuals, and of course, celebrities. The artist’s primary subject for filmmaking were  models, socialites, and ex-cons who weren’t exactly Hollywood’s finest, but Warhol saw something in these models that was quite fabulous. These socialites were flaunting long luscious lashes, vibrant lips, and ultra violet eye shadows.

You can check out the modern-day version of his looks on the runways of Diane Von Furstenburg and Victoria Beckham’s spring shows, nodding to electric pink lips and ultra violet eye shadow.
