Royalmocha mixing patterns

208 maanden geleden

MMixing patterns in an outfit can be tricky, doing it in a room can be downright intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. Follow some of the strategies royalmocha has used in her Suite.
Mix as many patterns as you like, as long as they come in a variety of dimensions. Remember its all about scale.

Let your patterns range from small to large. Then they balance each other out -- and the combinations become harmonious. You avoid the major drawback, and fear, that goes with bold pattern mixing: The Clash … and we don't mean the punk band.

You can avoid clashing by using these guidelines on scale and proportion.

Even florals can be mixed if you remember the rules and change the scale and the background colors.

Do you dare to do plaids, stripes and florals together? Dare. Again, scale is important. For example, mix a large floral with a small plaid.

Proportion and proximity/placement is key. How much area a pattern covers in a room and how close it is to other patterns has a major effect on its impact – and will strongly affect much you can use it.

Remember, when you're developing a room, or Suite of rooms, it looks different in your head than it will on the screen. But the joy of Stardoll is the world becomes your drawing table and storyboard – you can play with scale and proportion in a way you couldn’t do with real world swatches.

Fabric swatches are roughly of equal size. In your Stardoll Suite of rooms you can see how the patterns will play out differently with pieces of varying sizes.
