The light in the darkness of a virus

55 maanden geleden

Unfortunately, we live in dark times. Much of our planet is still quarantined to prevent the spreading of virus. In these circumstances, our daily lives have changed. Suddenly, face-to-face communication became screen-to-screen. All the university courses are done online and I spend endless hours in front of a screen studying. Therefore, my daily life has a lot of headaches.

But I believe that this risk of public health and this isolation in our homes can lead to growth. Certainly this growth will not be economic, as the economy of the whole planet is gradually beginning to collapse. But this development can be spiritual and artistic.

The Middle Ages, characterized by the Black Plague (of course we are not living through something quite like the Black Plague) did not bring darkness and stagnation to the spiritual level. All this danger to human nature and life, the divine power and its questioning, the curiosity about what death is like, gave birth to many masterpieces. As soon as we get out of this situation, culture can flourish because the artistic natures have always acted during the melancholy and depression of their times. So now we have plenty of time to paint, to write a book or a poem, to read, and to expand our spiritual and artistic horizons.

Stay home, stay safe and healthy.
