Boring Grown-Up Stuff: Friendships
First of all, I have to say that I'm so excited about the positive response to this series so far. Thank you all for your feedback, and don't be afraid to let me know what subject you want me to tackle next!
This time on Boring Grown-Up Stuff, we're going to talk about friendships. I have a small group of close friends and I can't imagine my life without them! Still, with the changes life brings, we often end up moving away from our friends. So what do we do?
With social media, it's pretty easy to stay up to date on what our childhood friends are doing, so...
For casual friends, like people you know from a shared activity, add them as on social media so you can see what they're up to. If you feel like it, you can comment on their posts and start a conversation that way, but even just sending them a 'like' once in a while will remind them that you're still there for them.
For a few close friends, try to arrange times to chat using Skype or FaceTime, or even over the phone! Throughout your day, you can even send them a funny picture or ask them how they're doing, so they know you're thinking of them.
It can be hard to think about drifting away from your friends, and I can say from experience that some of the people you think you're close with now, you won't be close with forever. The superficial friendships in your life will naturally fade away over time, but the strong friendships from your childhood will live on no matter how old you are.
Til next time!
