What Does Your Body Do For You?

One of the things we can do to fight back against bad body image is to start appreciating all the things our body can do! Society and the media tells us that the most important thing about our bodies are how they look and what size they are, but there are much more important things in life than focusing on these small factors.


What's the most important?
Looking nice is fun and can make us feel good about ourselves, but it isn't the most important thing about us. I much prefer focusing on the things our body lets us do and how we treat other people! These things are important to our own quality of life as well as the wellbeing of the people around us.


Why should we appreciate our bodies?
Our bodies are important. We should appreciate them, because they carry something very important - us! They also do a lot of hard work to keep us alive, making sure our food is digested properly and our lungs keep breathing in air for us. On top of this, our bodies let us do the things we want, from running, to typing, to simply thinking.


How can we start loving our bodies?
Every kind of body is beautiful in its own way, but it can be a real self esteem boost to take the focus off how we look. Instead, try writing down a list of things you appreciate your body for doing for you, and read a few whenever you are having a bad body image day - this will help you connect with your own body and see that all bodies are beautiful, no matter what they look like!
