Diversity on the Runways - Stardoll

Hello Dolls!

I'm Maite.Stardoll and today I wanna talk about diversity on the runways! As you might know, catwalks are controversial for their restrictive rules about standard models.One of the most important qualities for a model is the height, usually they request women measuring from 175 cm and men from 185 cm. Moreover, for decades a near impossible standard of beauty has been sought in models all over the world.

However, who gets to decide what is beautiful and what is not? In the harsh world of fashion, it seems that only women with measurements of 90-60-90 deserve this qualification. But things are finally changing, and women of all shapes, sizes, and abilities are achieving more and more success in the world of modeling.

These days, society is pushing back against the harsh demands of the high fashion world and asking to see more bodies, different bodies, and to celebrate everyone just as they are. This changing world is reaching the catwalk and changing the way we think about fashion. Today I wanna show you some examples of this new era!

Tess Holliday, 33 years old.

The first ever plus-size super model! When Tess Holliday has something to say, she shouts it to the four winds! This model of Mississippi made headlines for expressing her support of topics such as feminism, acceptance of one's own body, and motherhood. With this, Holliday has become one of the most honest models in the world of fashion! And one of the most celebrated!

Diandra Forrest, 28 years old.

She is the first ambassador with absence of pigmentation in the skin that represents several brands of makeup. But things have not been easy for Diandra, she suffered from bullying since childhood because of her skin tone. She also said that there were several negative comments when she announced that she wanted to become a model. At 28 years old, Diandra Forrest has performed in music videos of Kanye West and Beyoncé, as well as having posed in photo shoots for big brands. What is special about it? She is a grogeous model showing the world that beauty comes in all shades and conditions, and she is amazing!

Jillian Mercado, 30 years old.

Her name is Jillian Mercado and she is redefining the world of fashion by being the image of Diesel and Nordstrom despite the spastic muscular dystrophy that forces her to use a wheelchair since she was 12 years old. The 30-year-old girl has caught the eye of hundreds of media, including Vogue, thanks to her rocker and fashionista style. Mercado's life changed after Nicola Formichetti, Lady Gaga's stylist, posted on her Facebook page that she was looking for a model for Diesel's "Diesel Reboot" campaign. Jillian sent her his photographs and, later, the agency that was carrying out the casting, asked for more images. The rest is history. Mercado was chosen as the model to star in Diesel Reboot and since then has begun to redefine the world of fashion.

Laith Ashley, 28 years old.

"I did not suffer bullying until I was twelve, that my classmates began to tell me that I was weird," he said. Laith Ashley De La Cruz was born a man with the body of a woman. From a young age he knew what was happening to him and worked very hard until he could adapt his mind and body. Today he is a male model while fighting for the rights of other transgender people and the LGBTQ community. His incorporation to the catwalks came after being discovered on Instagram, where he was gaining much popularity, and became even more popular after a photo shoot with the legendary fashion photographer Bruce Weber!
