Sarah Jessica Parker’s gearing up to promote her new film, I Don’t Know How She Does It, but first she’ll have to answer questions about Halston Heritage. The actress signed on to help the struggling brand about a year and a half ago. At the time, the label was funded by Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein and run by Bonnie Takhar. Within six months of Parker’s arrival, Takhar was out. Less than a year after that, Weinstein jumped ship and WWD reported the label was in search of new money. Halston’s consistently failed to flourish post-Halston himself. When Weinstein invested in the label four years ago he hired a team of personalities like Tamara Mellon and Rachel Zoe as creative consultants instead of a real designer. Later, Marios Scwhab came on to design the main line and Halston Heritage, a lower priced line of reinterpreted archive pieces, snagged Sarah Jessica Parker. Though the line did well, especially given the promotional tie-in with Sex and the City 2, Parker’s contract wasn’t renewed. Apparently, she’s been gone for a few months, that no one realized until now—in the age of blogs, Internet and Twitter—is as surprising as the appointment itself.
