The book was better.
Reading has opened a whole new world for me. Among others, I've decided to read some books that were made into movies later and compare them. I'd usually read a book a while after watching a movie, if I was lucky enough to find it in library. Some books, on the other hands, inspired me to watch movies based on them. One thing is definitely sure - the book was always better.
While it is great that movies show us the scenes we had to imagine in our heads, characters we only knew by brief descriptions, what they cannot show us well enough is the deepest emotions, inner struggles, love, joy, despair, loneliness, betrayal. No matter how the movie is well made, they can never truly showcase those.
What I always hate is when the books gets made into a movie and they change some really important things, leaving out many interesting details. But I realized if they really included everything in the book, the movie would be at least twice as long.
So, as much as I love putting a face to name and viewing landscapes I could only imagine, if I ever had to choose between book or movie, the choice would be obvious. Yeah, that still won't stop me from enjoying an occasional movie, but for now, I mostly stick to books.
How about you?
