Amazing Audrey
Audrey Hepburn was living in the Netherlands and studying to be a ballet dancer when the Germans invaded. She never forgot surviving the "Hunger Winter" at the end of the war. These memories inspired her humanitarian work for UNICEF to help feed children all over the world.
After the war, she began acting in London, and soon was spotted by the writer Colette, who insisted that Audrey be cast in the stage version of her book, Gigi.
This led to her first starring film role, as Princess Anne in Roman Holiday. Her work was recognized with a BAFTA award, a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
When she got the role in Sabrina, she first worked with Hubert de Givenchy. They collaborated for the next 35 years to create her iconic style.
Her successful film career included many films now considered to be classics, including Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady. She was nominated for an Academy Award 5 times.
After taking time off to be a mother, she became a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador. For five years she traveled to see and report about the millions of children struggling to survive in desparate circumstances. The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund still continues her work.
"How shall I sum up my life? I think I’ve been particularly lucky." —Audrey Hepburn
I hope we are all inspired by her example to be more kind, more giving, and more open-hearted.
Play safe and have fun.
