Fashion Week got a touch of cool LA girl style last night at Mister H at Mondrian SoHo. Guests watched “What’s Up,” a short film by Gia Coppola that includes clothes from Wren and jewels from Fallon. Tennessee Thomas DJ’ed, while Miranda July and Sofia Coppola popped up to support their friends (and relatives!). “The way Gia can romanticize girl characters, it’s a really natural fit,” said Wren’s Melissa Coker. “I love how it’s this dynamic portrayal of a day in California, and the quality of light.” Bella Zarember, the star, spends a languid day at home in LA. trying on clothes and playing with jewelry against a backdrop of class schedules and The Strokes stickers before heading outside for a walk. She forgets to put on shoes (or doesn’t care?), but it doesn’t stop her from stomping on a hermit crab on the sidewalk. “We shot during the Carmaggdon weekend, when the 405 was closed, so I tried to incorporate the idea of not being able to go out and being trapped inside. I remember in high school, not being able to drive, and imagined what you do at that age,” explained Coppola. “You can’t drive, you look on Facebook…There was this cute kid, Cortez, who was going to be the annoying younger brother, but it got too long,” she said. As for what’s next, Coppola’s gearing up to work with America’s favorite renaissance man: “James Franco wrote Palo Alto stories, so I’m going to direct that. I’m excited!”

A look from VPL, Matteo Volta/Imaxtree
‘And Then There Was Us,’ Victoria Barlett’s spring collection, wasn’t exactly light. The designer was, “inspired by going back and looking at evolution, Darwinism, invertebrates, etcetera,” she told us backstage, post-show. Bartlett presented spring as two miniature collections, one representing the sea, and the other land, each half working to express, “the idea of shelling,” with inverted darts, soft boning, and jutting panniers. Oceanic muses like jellyfish were represented with undulating cowls, fluid skirts, and flashes of bright neoprene. She described them as, “fluo green and pink. Pink’s not my color, it’s very feminine, but I love them together—it’s kind of sporty like a ying & yang.” Meanwhile the brand’s signature swimwear and lingerie was accompanied by matching resin jewelry designed in collaboration with Orly Genger. Part two took note from beetles and used gold and grey fabric’s to emphasize the architectural elements including wing-like extensions and decorative fluting. Together, the two presented a strong case for intellectual weekend dressing with a strong story—though no backbone!—behind it.

A Look from DVF, Matteo Volta/Imaxtree
It wasn’t just the American flags Diane Von Furstenberg handed out post-show that gave her spring collection an Americana vibe. The designer sent a parade of bee-hived models down the runway, marching to a cheerful soundtrack in white frocks, pastel florals and over-sized Marimekko-like prints in mostly unstructured, cocoon shapes. Eventually, there were metallic jacquard cocktail dresses and enough sequins to satisfy everyone’s inner party girl. Speaking of party girls, Nicky Hilton sat front row amidst a bevy of industry titans including Oscar de la Renta, Valentino Garavani and Rachel Zoe. Hilton, perhaps still in a daze from the “five or so” parties she hit the night before, wasn’t looking forward to any new trends in particular but did say, “I love that it’s just such a wearable brand and I really love the accessories.” We’ll second that—especially the robin’s egg blue clutch at left.

- It seems like every celebrity either creates their own perfume or starts their own fashion line and Vanessa Hudgens is no exception! Vanessa is already in the process of creating a collection that showcases her own fabulous style! "We're still figuring it out, but it's definitely in the works," Vanessa recently revealed, she even went on to describe what the collection would feature, "street chic, bohemian and wearable." Sounds great to us!
V certainly has a interesting style and we think it would be great if she put her creativity to cloth! We can't wait! (eonline)
