After 94 TV episodes, two movies, and three books, we’re still not sick of Sex and the City. We could never get enough of Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda, but it’s hard to imagine them being played by anyone other than Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon respectively—the actresses who have brought the girls to life for all that time. So, when rumors began to swirl of an SATC prequel based on Candace Bushnell’s books The Carrie Diaries and Summer in the City, we were psyched of course, but nervous, too. What actresses could possibly play the younger versions of the characters we’ve come to know and love without ruining them? Would they have the same on-screen chemistry as our girls? SJP had some hesitations, too: she told The Los Angeles Times, “I don’t think we can pretend to go back… It’s creating two histories. It’s like, ‘Oh I didn’t know that about Carrie Bradshaw.’” Kristin Davis agreed earlier this year when she told E!, “‘And then have like different people with our names? It’s kind of freaky.” Well, according to the Daily Mail, the preferences for the younger versions of the NYC BFFs have been chosen. Check them out below, and tell us: do you agree with the picks? Will these other actresses be able to pull off the roles or is the flick doomed from the get-go?

First, the internet was abuzz with a trend called “planking,” where individuals lay face down on your stomach (like a plank) with your hands your sides in random locations. Celebrities like Katy Perry took to their Twitter page to show their version of the new phenomenon (see above). She also tweeted another picture of herself planking on the fourth.

Like we mentioned the other day, there’s no shortage of fashion based reality television shows hitting networks this fall. Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model and even (in some ways) The Hills, set off a spate of imitators and as fashion embraces the internet and becomes more accessible there’s an increasing demand for an inside look at this seemingly glamorous industry. Some shows, like Joe Zee’s All on the Line, really do document reality. Real designers meet with real buyers and editors for truthful discussions about the very real future of their brands while others, like The Hills, put real people in contrived situations, throw in some guidance and in-front-of-the-camera advice and just let the cameras roll. But when the whole thing is fake—or the most important parts—do you even want to watch? Fashion Star, the Project Runway-like competition Elle Macpherson’s hosting on NBC, features a panel of judges that includes reps from both H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. They’re supposed to be buyers, and the show is calling them buyers, but Nicole Christie is actually the Director of Communications for H&M in North America and Terron E. Schaefer is the Executive Vice President of Saks—you don’t have to work in fashion to know that a buyer and a marketing officer do very different things. (The third buyer, Caprice Willard, really is a buyer for Macy’s.) Do you care if so little of the show is based in reality? Or will you watch anyway?

If you had a clothing line, who would be your dream customer? E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic is launching a clothing line with HSN and she’s aiming high, like Gwyneth Paltrow high. Rancic tells WWD, “She has great style that’s not fussy and that’s what we’re going to do.” The collection’s being produced right now and will include 10 to 12 pieces when its introduced in January, including three handbags—everything will cost less than $50. She mentions a “deconstructed leather jacket,” which sounds like something that would be torn apart on the red carpet (which is where one usually sees Rancic), but we’ll withhold judgment until next year.

Alexander McQueen’s will was made public last night. The late British designer left most of his nearly $27 million fortune to his charity, Sarabande, and said he hoped they would consider putting a large chunk of that money toward scholarships to his alma mater, Central St. Martin’s. McQueen left each of his five siblings a little more than $400,000 and around $100,000 to his nieces, nephews and godson. That same amount was also set aside to care for his four dogs, on top of which McQueen donated around $165,000 dollars to four different charities, including the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, another animal welfare charity and the London Buddhist Center. There’s been a bit of outrage over the amount left to his dog, which is both inappropriate and uncalled for given the millions he left to charity and the expense of raising four dogs, but McQueen’s nothing if not divisive!

- Photo: Shopbop Rachel Zoe’s collection hits Shopbop on Monday and she’s so excited for the launch she made a video. It’ll offer a behind the scenes look at the making of her debut collection and after, a live question and answer period with Zoe herself. The collection’s been a long time coming, and hugely anticipated by fans and customers alike, so we asked Zoe what it was like to finally see it in person, after all the blood, sweat and tears she put into making it happen. Her first thought? “I can’t believe this is real! It’s been a life time in the making— such a dream come true!” she said. “I still cant believe its my name on the label. After all that, the next thing I thought was how great this collection is because it really fits into any lifestyle. The pieces can be mixed and matched for a seriously glamorous evening or casual, but chic afternoon. I really hope everyone loves it as much as I do.” Our office’s favorite look from Zoe’s collection is the skinny white suit—it’s our collective dream red carpet outfit—so we asked Zoe for tips on pulling it off. “The key to pulling off any look is confidence and good tailoring! I especially love this suit paired with a simple white blouse, like the Natalie tie collar from the collection,” she said. “And the camel suede Aubrey bootie!” The video will premiere on Shopbop on August 1st, but click through for our exclusive preview!

- We’ve heard celebrity after celebrity and makeup artist after makeup artist extol the benefits of fake eyelashes. They plump, thicken, and lengthen your lashes and call attention to your shining eyes in a way plain old mascara simply can’t. Paper eyelashes, however, take the whole fake-eyelashes thing to a completely new level. They won’t just call attention to your eyes, they’ll have people stopping and plain-out gaping at your peepers.

- It may just be the trickiest tool in your makeup bag: the eyeliner. The problem? We still can’t stop buying it! There are just too many variations and shades for us to go sans liner. But the question always arises: do I need eyeliner, and how do I apply it? It appears to be a cakewalk, right? Glide liner on upper and lower lashes, bam, done. Well, not quite.

Who: Olivia Wilde
What: World premiere of Cowboys and Aliens World at Comic-Con 2011, San Diego, CA
Wear: Dolce & Gabbana lace dress, Carrera y Carrera jewels
Olivia Wilde has come a long way since her supporting role on television’s The O.C. The American actress/model, appearing alongside Daniel Craig as the leading lady of Jon Favreau’s upcoming blockbuster Cowboys and Aliens, looked stunning at the world premiere in San Diego, California, wearing a black sheer Dolce & Gabbana floral-embroidered lace gown. With her brilliant blue eyes and flawless smile, Wilde could have arrived in cowboy boots or astronaut gear and still look ravishing, but the sweeping floor length gown and Carrera y Carrera jewels were a perfect fit for this budding star.
