Designers like Zac Posen, Thakoon, and Wes Gordon have turned up the notch on playful for spring! If you relate to a more free-spirited sense of style, a key item to have in your wardrobe this season is the jumpsuit. Zac Posen is using eccentric fun colors mixing it up with feather embellishments, while Wes Gordon plays with light grays and Thakoon with sheer metallic prints that are comfortable and easy to wear.

It only takes three to make a trend (so the saying goes), but gold tuxedos are popping up left and right in the AW11 collections. In New York, Oscar De La Renta sent out the most simple version and in Paris we’ve seen a slouchy one at Dries Van Noten, a sleek silhouette at Balmain (try to imagine it without the white boots) and a jacket paired with shorts at Comme des Garçons. Is this a trend you’ll embrace come fall?

Whether it’s in Casablanca or worn on the red carpet by Burberry face Emma Watson, trenches can’t be missed. Resistant to the elements and easy to throw on over jeans and cocktail dresses alike, they make the perfect wardrobe staple nearly 365 days a year. Now that the season is changing (fingers crossed), these toppers are warm enough to resist the residual winter frost and also suitable for oncoming, unpredictable spring showers. With more designers than ever offering their take—from studded to satin—all you have to do is take your pick.

    Who: Blake Lively

What: Chanel’s private dinner at La Grenouille

Wear: Chanel spring 2009 haute couture dress, Chanel Mademoiselle bag, and Christian Louboutin Lolo 69 pumps

Blake Lively might not be able to attend Chanel’s upcoming fall 2011 show, but the face of Chanel Mademoiselle handbags knows how to represent her brand. Always a step ahead, the Gossip Girl actress broke out spring’s whites, wearing a pristine Chanel haute couture organza frock with ruffled detailing (see it on the runway). Topped off with a classic quilted Chanel bag and emerald earrings, the look popped perfectly. Uncle Karl must be so proud.

How refreshing! Sarah Hyland looks absolutely adorable in a budget outfit from Alice + Olivia and Aldo at last night’s Beastly premiere in L.A., once again showing that you simply can’t buy style. This Modern Family cast member shows how to keep spring’s neutrals fresh and edgy by mixing textures like chiffon, leather, and brass hardware.

Something about the magic of the runway always makes somewhat tired trends look new and shiny. But fall 2011 took this literally, as metallic, lustrous fabrics stole the spotlight once more. Of course, brands didn’t just throw on some sequins and call it a day. Sheen was taken to a whole new level, with brands reinventing exactly what it means to sparkle.Burberry Prorsum’s not-so-subtle blue satin stole the show, injecting demure retro cuts with electricity.

Sultry waves were abundant on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, and on all hair lengths. Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and others all went for the classic spring/summer trend. Keep reading to find out hoe to make great beach waves. All you need is a good nights sleep.

Hailee Steinfeld might be short on stature and on years, but there’s nothing tween about this young actor’s sense of style. The True Grit star and Best Supporting Actress nominee has been rocking it with the best of them at this season’s press junkets and awards shows, showing-off her unusually smart fashion choices in ensembles by Prada, Marchesa, Prabal Gurung, and Marc Jacobs. There’s something refreshing about a kid who’s also not afraid to show her age from time to time with a hint of whimsy. Hailee seems just that much more wise for it.
