Dear StarBlog readers,

My name is Anna, I am from Saarbrücken, Germany and I am 24 years old. Currently, I am studying German and English literature and linguistics, to go into teaching afterwards, and I work as a research assistant in my university’s North American literature department. My native language therefore is German, but I do consider myself bilingual, since I have been speaking and studying English for nearly 15 years now. I also lived in London until March 2019. Besides that, I speak Italian, due to living in Florence for a year, but my fluency level is not as high as it is in English.

Tell us about your Stardoll Journey!

The idea behind my username unfortunately is nothing special. A friend of mine used this username on another website and I though of it to be really creative (bear with me – I was 12 back then!) and it was not yet taken on Stardoll, so I went for it. As I already mentioned, I was 12 back in 2007 when I discovered Stardoll and, if I remember correctly, I first heard of it from an article in a German youth magazine called Bravo. It issued every week and they would feature what they considered to be in and out. One week they featured a website called Stardoll in their in section, talking about how you were able to dress up celebrities there. I really liked the idea and then decided to join it.

Tell us more about your background and cultural interests!

In my free time – if I do have any – I like to travel a lot. My best travel experience was in New York City, where I always dreamed of going to. Last year I finally was financially able to fulfill my dream. Besides that, I also like to play around with my computer, especially editing videos with Sony Vegas. But on weekends you can also find me and my friends in our local Irish pub going for a pint or two. I also do consider myself to be a TV show nerd. I have been watching Supernatural since 15 years now and do spend a lot of my time with Netflix!

The German culture is very diverse and different in each federal state, but I did my best to come up with some interesting facts about it:

1) We really do like beer! Each federal state has its own significant brewery and people from there will only drink their type of beer. For my hometown we really do like to drink Karlsberg Urpils Stubbi! I myself do not drink beer at all!
2) To be fair: Most Germans do not really like the Oktoberfest in Munich! I even know some people living there who sublet their apartments for a high price and then spend these two weeks a year with their relatives in another part of Germany.
3) Fun fact about my hometown: Considering our population we do have the highest parking costs worldwide! Even higher than New York City!

4) Somehow we do call Angela Merkel ‘Mutti’ (which means mother) because after everything she has done for the country and especially for how long she has been in power, so we have a special bonding with her (even though we more often than not do not agree with her political decisions).

5) Germans are usually very punctual and fairly direct. Living abroad, I was often told off for being "rude" (especially in Britain) when I was just expressing my own opinion.

6) A lot of the world’s Christmas traditions are rooted in Germany. For example, the Christmas tree or the caroling. Also a lot of delicious Christmas cookie recipes are from Germany too.

7) The Netflix hit show Dark plays in a German town in Brandenburg and you can actually visit the places where it is set.

8) We have really nice medieval towns and cities still. For example, Nuremberg or Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where you should definitely go, if you want nice and picturesque Instagram pictures!

9) The German national dish is the Currywurst, which basically is a sausage covered in rich tomato and curry sauce! It goes with fries or with a simple bun and it is a delicious alternative to a burger or a pizza.

10) We know we do have a very diverse history considering the two World Wars and the Holocaust. But my generation had nothing to do with this and do not have this mindset anymore. We are open-minded and with a European mindset and are very welcoming towards people from all around the globe!

Words of Wisdom:

My favorite quote is actually ‘Saving people, hunting things, the family business’ from the first season of Supernatural, but I guess you cannot really take an advice out of that. So for an advice I guess I would just say ‘Be patient’, since everything will eventually work out in the end.'
