EXODUS EDIT #3
“Persistence can grind an iron beam down into a needle.”
To excuse my absence from the StarBlog seems futile and quite honestly, selfish. We are all living in such unprecedented times, where anything at all feels entirely possible, and it goes without saying that each of us have been affected by the recent developments of COVID-19 as it continues to grasp the globe. I have been reminded in recent weeks just how supportive and dynamic the Stardoll community is - the ways in which we have come together and shown love and kindness to one another has moved me, and reminded me how grateful I am to have a place in this virtual world, and better yet, this platform to share engaging content with all of you.
Everything is changing so rapidly right now, and us humans have a knack for adaptation (that’s what made us the superior species, after all). The old format of the EXODUS EDIT relied so heavily on the methodic pacing of Stardoll as we once knew it, but as I write this post today, all of that is suspended indefinitely. All considered, I decided to suspend my weekly Plaza reviews until we regain a new sense of “normality,” but that does not mean you won’t be hearing from me - in fact, quite the opposite; let’s slink into our Mugler pantsuits and get down to business.QUARANTINE, SELF ISOLATION, LOCKDOWN, SOCIAL DISTANCING - words we’re all sick to the back teeth of hearing by now, but what do they mean, really? Making the conscious decision to cut yourself off from civilization and resort to weeks of solitude is hardly something we would do under any other circumstances, but the importance of this act alone has made itself apparent in the face of a sweeping pandemic. But, how do we cope with such a change? What instances of curiosity, creativity, and chaos rise to the surface when we have all the time in the world and seemingly no real consequences? I asked my friends over in the Royalty Club what questionable decisions quarantine has cornered them in to - prepare to be entertained, and perhaps inspired, even.
Up first, coerced by my own impulsive decision to go at my own hair with electric clippers and kitchen scissors, comes confessions of at-home makeovers. Struck by boredom, with the full knowledge that nobody is going to see you for weeks to come, frames the perfect opportunity to take a risk with your appearance and mull over the results in confidence, or lack thereof:
supah_dupah reached to peroxide in her time of need: “I should be indefinitely barred from ever purchasing bleach and box dye, for my own good.”
turkiye bestowed her bootleg barber skills upon her father, instead: “Honestly it was hilarious, because I did an awful job on the back of his head! But it’s just hair, so it will grow back”
candy.supergirl sounds off on this running theme with a humble brag: “So glad that my mom is a trained hairdresser, lol.”But it’s not just our hair that’s fallen victim. Others have taken it all out on their faces, instead:
hemotoxica has been getting a little more than creative: “I’ve contoured with vidi lime green and layered my face with foundation as if I were an old Vermeer painting.”
bffk923 was not so confident in her abilities: “I did my makeup like Trixie Mattel’s…it was so terrible.”
When the outside world shuts down, we’re blessed and inclined to therefore load up our machines and step into a new world for a little while. Technology is our greatest feat as humans, and many of us have turned to it to keep us sane:
AllDolledUp shows impressive commitment to her gaming hobby: “I just realized I clocked 180 hours of Animal Crossing in 3 weeks.”
MarshMellowRawr takes a more unconventional approach: “I bought a karaoke machine to carry me through these hard times.”
everythingoes shows us that it’s important to stay academically accountable: “The most productive thing I’ve done is attend all of my (online) classes.”
Being stuck at home can quickly convince you that your space needs an update, and home improvements seem to be on the hot list right now, too:RainSeashell got handy on her homes exterior: “I have been cleaning out [the] flowerbeds and painted my front door navy blue.”
notnoworlater found joy in the unthinkable: “I cleaned my hardwood floors.” She goes on to say, “I had so much fun that I totally skipped the stairs and refuse to do upstairs.”
emu13 speaks for us all on her mission to tidy up: “I have cleaned, but moved things from one place to another. I think I may have created more mess.”
Knowing I wasn’t alone in my choice to throw caution to the wind during this time was comforting, and I got such a laugh out of hearing everyone’s self-isolation stories. It’s so important that in a time of such uncertainty, we remain optimistic and positive, not take things so seriously, and remember to have fun doing things we enjoy or will find entertaining.
All is not lost, we will return to our lives soon. Things might not be the same as before, but all that means is that it gives us the opportunity to make them better.
Stay safe, stay home, and my God, wash your hands.
Much love, and see you on the other side
