Around the World - Greece

Hello!

It has been a really long time since my last Around the World post, and I apologize! Today we'll be talking about Greece. Greece is a very historical country, so I'll try to pack as much information as possible into this post. Let's get started!

Sea Sponges- Greece is the chief manufacturer of sea sponges. If you want to get one, search the coast of Kalymnos. You are sure to find a few!

The Coastline- Greece has one of the 10 longest coastlines in the entire world! That's a lot of beach.

Islands- This country possesses around 2,000 islands, and of that 2,000, only a few hundred are inhabited.

Language- The Greek language is the oldest language still in use today. Η γλώσσα είναι παλιά χιλιάδες χρόνια!

Columns- Did you know that the Greeks were the first to use columns? They were great architects. They used a method of making columns bigger at the base and progressively getting smaller to the top to make buildings look taller. They came up with three types of columns- doric, ionic, and corinthian.

There you have it! Those were a few interesting facts about Greece. While the country is known for its beautiful beaches and intriguing culture and history, I thought these facts were less known.

Where should we explore next in Around the World?
