We knew that Sofia Coppola was getting married this weekend, to Phoenix’s Thomas Mars, in a palace her father had bought and renovated, but the most important question—what would she wear?—remained unanswered. The odds boiled down to Marc Jacobs and Azzedine Alaïa. The former because they’re close friends and the latter because she’d been one of the few celebrities to sit front row at his couture show last month—and because he’s Alaïa. In the end, Coppola wore an Alaïa that looked like a Marc Jacobs. The soft lavender and white silk dress gathered at the neck and cinched at the waist before poofing out into a skirt that hit just at the knee.
