The Girls of ‘Blue Crush 2′ Talk Style and Teach You How to Surf

164个月之前

Since 2002, many pipe dreams have been inspired by Kate Bosworth’s feisty attitude and command of the waves in Blue Crush. Sasha Jackson, Sharni Vinson, Elizabeth Mathis, and Rosie Hodge took these dreams to the set, once again, carrying out the legacy of female fortitude as the leading ladies in Blue Crush 2, hitting DVD and Blu-Ray June 7.

The sequel follows Dana (Sasha) as she embarks upon an ambitious journey across the breathtaking southern coast of Africa to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing the revered surf spot, Jeffery Bay. Along the way, Dana and her fun-loving friend Pushy (Elizabeth) face fierce competition. With awe-inspiring aquatic stunts performed by world-renowned surfer Rosie Hodge, this flick will get surely get audiences running the beach. We had the opportunity to get to know the ladies behind the scenes. Check it out!

ELLEgirl.com: If you were stuck on an island with a book an album and a movie, which would you choose?

Rosie: Anything Roald Dahl. As far as music, I am really loving Florence and the Machine, and my movie… I would take a camera and make my own movie.

Sasha: I would take something by Malcom Gladwell, so probably Blink, or anything by Dan Brown. And music-wise, it was would have to be Michael Jackson because he covers everything—you could cry and dance around the island by yourself like a maniac. For the movie, I would bring anything with any of my friends in it! I would take Blue Crush 2 because then I could have my family!

Elizabeth: I would take a photo album with pictures of my family if I were stuck on an island. For the movie, I would take Castaway so I could pick up some tips on how to get off the island. And for music? Maybe Lykke Li—I like her right now a lot.

Sharni: I don’t read, so my book would be something like an encyclopedia, or another language. Spanish is a language I would like to learn. Maybe by the time I get off I could actually speak another language. I don’t like technology when I am on an island, so I don’t want a movie. I just want the peace and serenity. For music I would want reggae… maybe some Bob Marley, something super chill to go with the vibe of where you are. My dream since I was a child is to be left on an island and be able to fend for myself. I want to be Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon, so having said that, I am really happy to stay on the island, learn Spanish, and listen to Bob Marley.

EG: What’s your favorite part of summer?

Rosie: The heat! I hate being cold.

Sasha: Everybody’s mood. I love the energy of the summer. Also, every time summer comes around you don’t have to go to the hairdresser because the sun will give you the natural blonde streaks that you pay a fortune for.

Elizabeth: For me it’s the beaches. Whenever summer hits I love that you can spend any day of the week on the beach.

EG: Who or what is your favorite style inspiration.

Sasha: Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. I love the retro girls from the ’50s.

Rosie: Blondie!

Elizabeth: I don’t have one person. I get bored so easily so I like too mix it up. I go with whatever mood I am in.

Sharni: I live out of a store called All Saints. I think if you buy individual pieces that are nice, it doesn’t matter how you put them altogether, you are going to look great.

EG: What’s your staple beauty tool?

Sasha: Pawpaw ointment—an Australian ointment. And bio-oil. After I wash my face at night, I put it on my hands and face and within two minutes it soaks in and your skin is completely soft.

Elizabeth: I swear by the universal brown Dior eyebrow pencil and the Anastasia brow gel. It matches anybody!

Rosie: I put so much sun block on my skin so I mainly just use coconut oil as a moisturizer on my body or my hair.

EG: Do you prefer surfer boys or city boys?

Unanimous: Surfers!

Sasha: I like a city boy that surfs. Wears a suit during the day and on the weekends he is my surfer boy!

EG: What is your favorite and most effective de-stressing technique?

Elizabeth: A bath. It’s easy and you don’t have to spend money. Just take that time for yourself!

Rosie: I just discovered Bikram yoga. I thought it would be the worst thing ever, but it is amazing, super fun, and you really do feel relaxed afterwards.

Sasha: I like to laugh and dance with my friends.

Sharni: The only thing that really de-stresses me is the ocean, and in this movie we were on the ocean every single day. I have never been so calm, cool, and collected as when we were shooting this movie. It was so removed from Hollywood and I got back in touch with reality, nature, and myself.

EG: When you get together with your girlfriends, what is your favorite thing to do?

Sasha: Vent. So many women restrain themselves from venting because they think it sounds like complaining. It is just so healthy. I absolutely love listening and talking to my girls.

Sharni: Guys don’t do that, and they really should!

Elizabeth: I am a foodie, so I like to go to brunch with my girlfriends, eat good food, and taste different things. I also love to watch movies!

Sharni: I love road trips and traveling with girlfriends because that is great bonding time. The best holidays I have ever had have been with four or five girlfriends.

EG: What is the coolest part of surfing?

Sasha: Being one with the ocean and forgetting absolutely everything about your day-to-day life.

Elizabeth: It’s the rush. Every time you catch a wave you get an amazing adrenaline rush. It’s addictive.

Sharni: The freedom. When you are out there, there is something about being in the ocean, standing on a wave and moving across it. It is quite fantasy-like. You cannot think about anything else.

Rosie: For me, this whole thing was a dream because I was getting paid to go and surf my brains out… which is all I ever want to do!

EG: What advice could you give girls if they are getting on a surfboard for the first time this summer?

Elizabeth: Don’t be discouraged. We were lucky enough to have training for four weeks prior to shooting. We had dance classes, yoga classes, breathing classes. By the time we were shooting, we felt very comfortable in the water. I think if I was going by myself, I would have been so discouraged!

Sasha: Have fun with it! It is all about the mentality that we take out there. It is the same thing as horseback riding. When you fall off, just get back on. Surfing to me is half meditation, half adrenaline rush. So just relax and have fun and try and be like Rosie Hodge.

Rosie: I think the first time that you really want to start surfing you just have to enjoy it and not be discouraged because it is difficult. Maybe even go in a group!

Sharni: It is difficult and fun but I think there is an element of danger in surfing so it shouldn’t be taken so lightly. Make sure you have basic skills and knowledge of the ocean and surfing. Try surfing in a pool first!

EG: What was the physical training like?

Elizabeth: We did four weeks of training prior to it. We did yoga, we did breathing, we did dance classes and we had swim training. I was really tired, but also in the best shape of my life. It made me so strong and prepared for what we were about to endure.

Sasha: I used to be an athlete when I was younger and I put on weight for the first time in this movie and I loved it.  I looked completely different from how I usually look. I had a surfer’s body! I loved having curves and I like the different types of physiques in the movie because we are all completely different shapes and sizes. I like that girls are going to get to watch this and each one is going to be able to relate to someone.

Sharni: I was cast last minute and only had a week of surf training. Having said that, I kind of feel like I have been training for this film my entire life. I have lived on the ocean, I am from Australia, I have been a swimmer for twenty years and I am very familiar with the water. I have kind of done everything possible that you could do related to surfing other than stand up on the board! The week of surf training just to get up was what I really needed but I felt like the training for me came in 27 years. You don’t realize how everything you do when you are younger is going to fit into potential opportunities later on in life and its cool when it all combines

EG: If you could, would you trade lives with your characters from the movie?

Sasha: I think all of us loved our characters but I think we all love our lives more, maybe because we wrote our own lives.
