We were big fans of all the lace we saw on the shining starlets at the People’s Choice Awards this year. From Kristin Bell in fierce, fiery Valentino to Miley Cyrus in futuristic cream colored David Koma with a plunging mesh neckline, to Nina Dobrev’s glowing green Elie Saab mini, we were loving the intricate lace and mesh detail. Check out the do’s (and don’t's) of emulating this sophisticated red carpet trend below! How to Rock this Trend: Do…go bold. This is not your grandmother’s lace wedding dress. Look for deep, bright, eye-popping colors, like the magenta frock below.

Photo: Courtesy of Oasis Oasis lace frock, $45. Don’t…turn down long sleeves. With lace, long sleeves aren’t dowdy, they’re ultra-elegant.
Photo: Courtesy of Zara Zara lace dress,$60. Do…embrace clever cut-outs. Back, front, side…this trend welcomes all angles.
Photo: Courtesy of Missle Fridge Bengaline cut-out dress, $68. Don’t…be scared to take a plunge. A low neckline concealed in mesh or lace is daring without being  over the top.

Photo: Courtesy of Asos Pixie Lott mesh dress, $76. Do…say yes to texture. Sequins, glitter and embellishments on the body of the dress draw attention to the details of mesh cut-outs or accents.

Photo: Courtesy of The House of Fraser Lipsy sleeveless dress, $89 Don’t…forget to love your curves. This trend aims to flatter your figure by drawing attention to your curves while also keeping you (somewhat) covered. Look for dresses that hug and fit your form.
Photo: Courtesy of Top Shop Top Shop wrap dress, $39. Do…lay off the accessories. The intricacies of lace and mesh dresses add enough contrast and visual drama so leave flashy jewelry, shoes and bags at home. A simple pendant necklace is just enough (like the model in the below picture proves).

Just last week Simon Doonan mentioned his high hopes for the red carpets of 2012: “I’m hoping that we reach some kind of critical period where people do let it rip…We haven’t had anything fun in ages.” Doonan’s dreams may have been answered thanks to a slew of sartorial stars doubling as nominated actresses.  This week alone saw three awards shows and enough winning red carpet looks to make us worry about what will be left come Oscar weekend.  The National Board of Review Awards Gala kicked things off in New York City.  Carey Mulligan shook things up in an ombre fringe belted dress from Lanvin’s resort 2012 collection, and Felicity Jones pulled off an effortless Fellini-esque look thanks to Dolce & Gabbana. The following day, at the People’s Choice Awards, Ginnifer Goodwin stole the spotlight in a neon pink bell-sleeve dress from Brit designer Roksanda Ilincic—any celeb brave enough to rock neon on the red carpet deserves a thumbs-up. And last night, at the Critic’s Choice Awards, the ladies brought out the big guns: Charlize Theron donned a couture Alaia gown; Diane Kruger showed us all how the Prada spring 2012 collection will be interpreted into red carpet dresses instead of runway leotards (thank god!); Michelle Williams opted for an elegant black and white Chanel number from the resort collection; Elle Fanning brought a boho edge in Rodarte; Jessica Chastain complemented her fiery red hair with a coral Balenciaga; red carpet rookie Shailene Woodley proved she’s fit to be a contender for best dressed this season in a Calvin Klein collection gown, and Emma Stone proved her style prowess in a Jason Wu pre-fall look that debuted just weeks ago. Fingers crossed they keep up their momentum at this weekend’s Golden Globes! backnext Ginnifer Goodwin in Roksanda Illincic. Photo: Getty ImagesGinnifer Goodwin in Roksanda Illincic. Michelle Williams had a Marilyn moment of her own when she stopped by “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” last week, turning heads in a smart and chic Jason Wu frock as she promoted her new Monroe biopic, My Week With Marilyn. Williams charmed the audience with tales of how she prepared for the role of the troubled 1950s sex symbol, and her outfit was just as praiseworthy as her convincing performance in the film. The actress looked clean-cut in a stunning peplum dress from Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 collection, paired with Fendi patent leather bow-front pumps. Williams wore minimal accessories and let the Swarovski elements on her dress provide all the sparkle and shine. Her makeup was sweet and simple as well: a berry color on her lips and orange polish on her fingernails. A touch of heavy mascara on her lashes added a bit of boldness. Now that we’re up to our ankles in awards season, we admit we look forward to seeing who’s wearing what more than who’s winning what. Last night at the Critics’ Choice Awards, most stars opted for current runway looks, the majority donning gowns from 2012 spring and pre-fall collections. The favored trend of the evening was definitely elegance, with one floor-length, flowing gown after another. Check out our favorite looks of the night and see if your favorite actresses made our best dressed list!

Charlize Therone was one of the few actresses who wore last year’s dress to this year’s award show. Still, we aren’t complaining, seeing how she absolutely smoldered in a Fall 2011 Azzedine Alaia gown. She polished the dark, daring look with Giambattista sandals and Bvlgari ring.

Ahna O’Reilly, who took home the “Best Movie Acting Ensemble Award” with her The Help castmates, looked sweet and sunny in a dress from the Honor spring collection. She kept her look bright with a pair of lavender Casadei wedges.

Viola Davis looked like a goddess in an empire-waisted Raoul gown from the pre-fall 2012 collection. She took home “Best Actress” for her role in The Help.
    Photo: Splash News
Elle Fanning was as fresh as a flower in a Van Gogh inspired Rodarte dress  from the spring 2012 collection.

Photo: Splash News We got major Peresphone vibes from Rachel Evan Woods, who paired dark polish and onyx earrings with her sweeping black dress from the Valentino spring 2012 collection.

    Photo: Splash News
Diane Kruger not only got the Grecian goddess memo that so many stars seemed to be passing around, she got the “wear lovely sunny colors!” memo too. She pulled off both trends in head-to-heel Prada, with a pink clutch and silver sandals.
    Photo: Splash News
Michelle Williams was the epitome of chic in floor length Chanel from the 2012 resort collection. She carried (naturally) a quilted Chanel clutch and wore Fred Leighton for Forever jewelry.

While our female favorite celebs wears expensive high heels to match their designer dresses, our male celebs aren’t as fashion conscious. Well, they do wear hot tuxedos while on the red carpet, but what about the shoes? These celebs have done the forbidden – they’ve matched their very nice tuxedos - with sneakers! We thought Owen Wilson had a better style than that! Well, at least they’re not all muddy. Click on the pic to see some more male celebs comitting fashion faux pas!

After the horrendous break up between Katy Perry and Russell Brand, both parties have retreated. We've spotted them a few times, and they always look so sad and lonely. But that conception is wrong, at least for Russell! Yesterday when he was speaking to TV writers in Pasadena, California and was asked how he was coping he answered, "Quite well, thank you. Are you asking because of recent events? You are making the mistake of seeing time as linear," he said and continued, "The brilliant American author Kurt Vonnegut, he'll tell you that if you imagine reality as experienced simultaneously, events become redundant." Errh... okay? When they discussed Russell's up coming project 'Strangely Uplifting', he said that the goal was to make people happy. Well, is he happy? "Yes, I am," Russell said and smiled. While we're happy for Russell that he's getting over Katy, it must be hard for her. It's all so fast! (people)
