EXODUS EDIT #2
I don't believe that anyone is not bothered by critics. I think that everybody cares.
— Miuccia Prada
Time flies when you’re ripping into a virtual reality game for girls, and I’m already back with another EXODUS EDIT! We began this week with the abrupt end of February in sight, and Fall 2020 fashion week in full swing. Many of us were swooning over the developments of fashion in the real world, but what was occurring in our very own paperdoll universe? Let’s discuss…
MON Feb 24th - Rio Chicas
As the much anticipated promise of Spring bends over the horizon, it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see more sunny styles begin to bloom in the StarPlaza. Gone are the days of lumbered heavy coats and buckled up boots - and taking their place in this Rio release are vibrant flares, earthy knots, and playful pinstripes.
An easy array of styles are on offer, including a slouchy trio of taupe garments; Striped Jumpsuit (16 SD), Bean Bag (12 SD),and Bast Bag (11 SD) perfect for bringing together any boho chic ensemble. Some street style was brought to the table, too, with the effortlessly edgy Show Shoulder Shirt (14 SD) and Denim Ripped Skirt (14 SD).
While this collection is not to my taste, I think there were some excellent items chosen that feel consistent yet also varied. There’s a great selection of fits and cuts, and the quality of the pieces is up to par. That being said, I cannot help but give a dishonorable mention to the horrendously gaudy Star Button Skirt (14 SD) ie: that one garment that gets someone sent home on episode one of Project Runway.
WHAT EXODUS BAGGED: I couldn’t see any of these pieces fitting into my wardrobe, so I did that weird thing where you lightly brush a few things on the rack, smile at the cashier, and leave.
WED Feb 26th - Callie’s Picks (curated by menftyx)
I’ve known mfentyx for a fairly long time; they’re an exceptionally trendy individual, and this Callie’s Picks collection reflects that immensely. The excitement I had in the run-up to this release was second-to-none, and I can confidently say it did not disappoint. mfentyx curated an excellent lineup of post-Vetements influenced Parisian mod, incorporating powerhouse basics and excellently eclectic printed costumes. I expected nothing less from such a renowned style star.
Anyone who knows me knows I’d snap my neck to snag anything from the old school 2006 era of Stardoll, and this collection had such garments by the bucket load. There were some real diamonds that have since been forgotten over time, such as; Rio Tubetop (22 SD), Denim Jacket (44 SD) and Voile Bag (30 SD). I’m always excited, too, to see some of my closet favorites appear in CP, this time it was the Ruffled Sides Print Top (18 SD), a corseted top printed with an abstract image of two infamous cartoon mice in a loving embrace.
This release is a stark example that, when you get fashion-centric members involved with the curation process of StarPlaza collections, they can be a relentless hit and inject some vital personality into the tedious lull of releases we’re so used to. I can only hope this will spearhead more user involvement within the StarPlaza and bring us quality clothes we’re all excited to buy.
WHAT EXODUS BAGGED: It’s safe to say I spent a pretty penny on this release, bagging a total of seven items; RIO Superman Shirt (30 SD), Channing Tatum Jacket (50 SD), Voile Bag (30 SD), Mandaryna Jacket (38 SD), Tom Hat (16 SD), Rio Tubetop (22 SD), Hot Buys Zip Snake Heels (16 SD)
FRI Feb 28th - Limited Edition (decor)
The desire to fully furnish ones Suite is one that is sadly lost on me, and in turn, makes any decor release feel incredibly lackluster. With this Limited Edition decor release, I felt I wasn’t missing much, either. Offered up was a janky yard-sale of beat up vintage kitchen fittings, suspiciously IKEA-esque lawn chairs, and a literal rock. I struggled with pinpointing a theme for this collection, everything felt so out of place, it was hard to even guess what direction it was supposed to be taking.
There is only so much furniture that can be pedalled to an audience drawn in with the promise of “fame, fashion, and friends” and when a decor release fails to be tailored to a specific aesthetic, it feels ultimately pointless to me. Back in the days when decor stores like Kitsch and Fashion were thriving with contemporary and interesting items, decorating your Suite felt more like a display of personal taste, as apposed to now when we’re dealt such off-the-bat styles that amount to so little.
Expanding the Limited Edition brand and concept to furniture seemed like a fun idea at the start, but since it’s predecessor of fashion took a nosedive, LE Decor conclusively followed suit. Whoever is wilfully spending 60 SD on a bland beige sofa gets nothing more than a swift side-eye from me.
WHAT EXODUS BAGGED: I left empty handed. What a waste of the U-Haul I pre-hired.
My wallet remains thick and my closet feasibly fed, so all in all I sit content. Wednesday’s Callie’s Picks release was more than enough to satisfy me, thus I’m not so pained by the abysmal way the rest of this week played out.
So, let’s hear you, Dolls - dish the dirt in the comments and let me know what you thought about the cabinet of curiosities that pulled through town this week.
Much love, and see you on the other side
