Boring Grown-Up Stuff: Failure

för 75 månader sedan

We always think of failing as something bad, and not without reason! Failing at something, whether it's a test in school, or in a relationship, or in a contest, makes us feel like we're not good enough. After experiencing my fair share of failures, there's actually a lot I've learned from them!

If you didn't study at all for your test and you failed, well, that is your fault. But when you put your best effort into something and fail, you're not 100% to blame. If you applied for a job and didn't get it, it could be because the person who got it had a lot more experience than you, and that's not something you can control. When you fail, ask yourself what you could have (realistically) done differently...If you can't think of much, stop beating yourself up!

When something goes wrong, don't just accept it and forget it ever happened. Ask your teacher where you lost marks. Think about why that friendship didn't last. It can be discouraging to look your shortcomings right in the face, but you can learn from them and improve yourself. Maybe your grammar isn't very good, so you can work extra hard on it for your next assignment.

Failing isn't fun, but we all do it sometimes. And our idea of 'failure' is completely personal. To one person, it might literally be "not passing a class", but for someone with different expectations, it might be "not being on the honour roll". Take each failure in your life as an opportunity to learn and grow, and remember to be kind to yourself, and don't push yourself to unrealistic standards! Everyone fails, kids and grown-ups, doctors and cashiers. After all, we're all human!

When have you learned from a failure?

Til next time!
