Pride with maro7777777

Hello!

In honor of Pride Month, today I'll be interviewing maro7777777. She is bisexual.

What does it mean to be bisexual? My entire life I thought I was straight. After years of trying to figure myself out, I found I was bisexual. I do not know if I’m going to end up with a man, a woman, or even get married at all, but I do know that my bisexuality is a piece of me I'm happy to have.

Why is it important that we give LGBTQ+ people equal rights? Why is it important for African Americans or women to have equal rights? It’s simple: We're all human. Your race, sexuality, gender, or religious views should not have an effect on your basic human rights. Every person on this planet deserves the same rights.

Have you ever faced discrimination because of your sexuality? I grew up in a household with a lot of arguments with my parents, but when my family realized how accepting my cousins were, they realized that my sexuality is only one part of me. I've been called names and although I haven’t faced any physical harm, it makes me sad to see my brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ+ community deal with terrible people.

What does Pride Month mean to you? It's the time when I feel most like myself. This month is when I feel closest to everyone in the LGBTQ+ community. It's when we prosper and feel more love within ourselves. It is a beautiful month.

What do you say to all of the in the closet LGBTQ+ people who are scared to come out? Bring up the topic around those who you're afraid of, just ask them their opinions on it. If they might get violent/abusive, don’t come out. It pains me to see people in the closet, but your safety is more important. Everyone has a different story, just make sure that you’re in a safe/supporting environment when you come out.
