Heartbroken
I am so sad today. Yesterday we had to put my lovely border collie mix down. She suddenly stopped eating last week. A few weeks before she had a blood test that is standard at our vet's before a tooth cleaning, and the vet said she did not pass and had a kidney problem and recommended a special diet.We bought the prescription diet and at first she loved it. She seemed fine, but then this last weekend she refused any food. I tried to tempt her with her favorites, but she refused most things and when she ate a bit of watermelon, which I could tell she enjoyed, she vomited it soon afterwards. On Monday, I took her into the vet and since she was dehydrated, he gave her subcutaneous fluids and an injection for nausea. Yesterday she was completely listless and had trouble standing and walking. We were shocked at how quickly her condition deteriorated. Our vet gave us the bad news: she was not going to recover. It happened so fast. A week ago she seemed fine. She always knew when it was 6 and would come to us and “speak” to remind us it was supper time. She loved to cuddle and would snuggle against me on the floor as I did my stretches. We have no idea how old she was. She came to live with us in November 2007 and she was such a lively beautiful dog. The house feels empty without her. I have the other dogs, but I miss her.It was very hard to let her go. She will always be in my heart. Here's a picture of her going for a run when she was younger. She loved going fast, so using my bike was the only way I could let her run as fast as she wanted. When I reached the end of the street, she would pull on the leash as if to say "again!" We used a "walky dog" attachment that is a safe way to keep the dog away from the wheels.
