Hello Dollies!

Being happy is my favorite feeling! So I decided to write a poem about all the things that make me smile!

• Sunshine on my face at breakfast time,
  Having kitchen dance parties every night.
  
  Dad laughs and feeds me custard and peaches,
  Sun filled days with my cousins on black beaches.
  
  Each time one of my sisters cracks a smile, 
  I smile too, no matter the distance, the time.
  
  Abba, BeeGees, disco fever jiving,
  Singing in the car, Aunty is driving. 
  
  My mum strokes my hair and sings me to sleep, 
  Lavender on my temples while I dream. 
  
  The smell of the crook of my grandma's neck. 
  Dinner in the summertime on the deck. 
  
  To be a woman who occupies space,
  One who roams and finds home in any place.
  
  Walking through the trees as the sunlight beams,
  Stopping for a picnic afternoon tea. 
  
  Freckles and sweat and sunglass reflections,
  Seeing my brother in his daughters grin. 
  
  Reading and writing and speaking my truth. 
  Staying mysterious, quiet, aloof. 
  
  When it's hot and the grass is freshly cut,
  When it's cold and we make blanket huts.
  
  My family will catch me, this I know,
  They give me strength, they give me space to grow. 
  
  Vegetables and water and peppermint tea, 
  It's the simple things that make me happy!
