Anna Sui, the queen of retro-chic, mod, tribal-inspired women’s wear, did not disappoint with her newest style hybrid for her fall 2011 collection: the nerdy bohemian. A lesser talent might not have been able to pull off such a smattering of florals, geometrics, tribal patterns, lace, stripes, and bold colors while adding an element of bookworm, but Sui—a seasoned veteran in the fashion game—did so effortlessly. The festive collection was complete with furs, fringes, printed tights, thick rimmed spectacles, and her usual exciting color palette, including a striking absinthe green. The playful nature of Sui’s circus of a runway show, with its smiling models and kitten headgear, was a breath of fresh air this week in New York.

To the pleasure of some and ire of others (we’re talking to you, PETA) fur inevitably shows up every New York Fashion Week. So the latest hairy craze is likely to split opinion as well—if not politically, then at least sartorially. Novelty fur, in various colors and forms, appears to be replacing classic coats for fall 2011.

California fashionista Lauren Conrad has debuted her forthcoming clothing line Paper Crown! The former reality star (whose new show focusing on the production of her line got killed by MTV) has a passion for designing, and her inspiration follows a romantic theme. Conrad’s fun, fresh, and classy aesthetic created pieces like streamlined cocktail dresses, slouchy blazers, and flirty frocks that are perfect for the modern girl with a flair for the feminine. LC stated: “My new line, Paper Crown, will really cater more to the special occasion dress. I love designing everyday clothes for Kohl’s, but sometimes it is fun to have that special dress or splurge every once in a while.” There’s no word on pricing yet, but her fall 2011 Paper Crown collection will be hitting stores this fall! Here’s a sneak peek of Lauren’s ‘Paper Crown’ collection:

- Rocker turned fashion designer Gwen Stefani held another successful showing of her clothing brand LAMB yesterday at New Fashion Week. Even though the clothes were again, typical Gwen in her fun and funky style, a certain little one stole the show completely! Her little boy Kingston Rossdale walked the runway with him mom to close the show and he was the biggest hit on the catwalk by far!

- This Spring season is all about bright colors and bold stetements. Its like Nicole Richie was reading the minds of the designer's while she was designing her new sunglasses collection! We spotted her Nicole on her way from a workout this morning in Hollywood sporting the cutest pair of bright red sunglasses. Love!

This is the first season in a few years that Isaac Mizrahi’s taken his show outside the tents, and he turned it into a dog show called “Cake.” The designer, who’s no stranger to entertainment, presented a collection for fall that looks like a cooler girl’s—albeit hoity toity—version of last spring’s garden party. Given that sweet theme, colors were frothy hues of sweet mint, lavender and other pastels, plus pops of hot pink and orange. Flirty blues, greys and soft feminine florals toned things down while bows (though not obnoxious ones) and draping adorned both mini-dresses and floor-grazing gowns. The pieces are simple, but not in a bad way; even the dresses textured in lace, sparkle and pearly embellishment seem easy to wear.
Of course, it’s hard to closely examine a purple dress when there’s a poodle of the same color walking alongside it (101 Dalmations déjà vu), or a frightened furry friend in the nook of another model’s arm. As if their presence wasn’t enough, the models also wore poofy headpieces à la poodle and Mizrahi sent three-tiered cakes on platters down the runway. One front-row onlooker certainly enjoyed the show: as the models started coming out, Johnny Weir kept laughing and saying, “I like the hair,” as he was donning a similar style himself. Even weirder than sharing the same hairstyle was when the second model came by closely matching the color of the light blue fur he had on. Coincidence?

- No one can accuse Eviana Heartman of not being thorough. Bodkin’s environmentally-friendly designer combines style with (often-recycled) substance at her sustainable label season after season. Now, she’s teamed up with natural skincare line Tata Harper, M.A.C. Mineralize and ABBA organic hair care to bring eco-chic to the next level. Backstage, Heartman explained the significance of the whole-package collaboration: “It just seems like a no-brainer. The world of beauty is actually full of options. It’s something I’m quite loyal to, and with beauty I think the lines are much clearer [than in fashion]. With beauty, it’s literally being absorbed into the skin.”
Photo: Courtesy of Alexandra For Bodkin, that goes right down to the pores themselves. Rose and chamomile scents wafted as models were treated to Tata Harper facials before the show, leaving the girls dewy and prepped for makeup. Keeping with the minimalist aesthetic, M.A.C. Mineralize complemented the refreshed faces with a look that was all about the skin. The team added a Skinfinish powder for a bit of polish, soft Pink Swoon blush on the apples of the cheeks, a touch of Sweet Satisfaction eye shadow and classic black mascara feathered on with a brush. In a fun twist, the artists used a pencil in Painterly (available in June) to line the inside corners of the eyes, giving them a more casual look than the typical shiny white highlighter. The overall effect was an easy beauty that can be dressed-up or down, and that translates well from the runway to real life. Make-up director Nadine Luke assures that it’s a simple style to accomplish, and better yet, “The more it’s lived-in, the better it gets.”
Photo: Courtesy of Alexandra ABBA certainly got the “lived-in” memo: Their disheveled up-down ‘dos produced the perfect mix of princess and grunge. Stylists brushed dry hair with boar bristle, pulling it into a low and loose ponytail with a center part and keeping the band far back to accomplish an undone appearance. To create the illusion of being tucked into a jacket, pieces were then gently pulled from underneath and the side of the head. When replicating this technique at home, they advise a root lift for volume, texture cream to enhance the hair’s organic feeling and lots of firm hold hair spray. Despite the ethics, it wouldn’t be a fashion show without the glamour. Heartman confided, “The clothes are so much about reality and trying to make reality a little more special.” So although everything from the dresses to the moisturizer was natural, it never forgot to just be pretty and—like the plum lip stain on all the models—just a little bit different.

- This is why Diane Kruger is a Chanel muse! On a red carpet filled with fashionistas like Kim Kardashian an January Jones, she put them all to shame. She was stunning in this tiny little white and silver mini dress don't you think? Diane and her fiance Joshua Jackson were at the premiere of her new movie "The Unknown". See who else was there and watch the movie trailer below!
