Is New Disney Channel Bad? - Part 2

The Shows

It's no secret that Disney Channel has no limit to the types of shows they produce. From regular family life to wizards to undercover agents - they've got the variety. But were their ideas for shows more entertaining and spontaneous back then than now? I've tried to create categories and line up shows that have similar premises so that we can really understand.

Entertainment - Already Famous
Hannah Montana (2006) vs. Coop & Cami Ask the World (2018)

Hannah Montana was a show that focused on the life of a teenage pop star who wore a disguise to cover her true identity during her concerts and other public events so that she could live a normal life without being recognized. The only people who knew her secret were her family and her two best friends.

Coop & Cami Ask the World centers on a brother and sister who are internet famous with their Would You Wrather show. As they struggle with daily events, they turn to their extremely large fanbase for a solution, no matter how insane it may be.

Based solely on these descriptions, which show sounds more interesting and unique? Remember that these are very in tune with the times. Back in 2006, pop stars were the ultimate idols - there's a reason why Hannah Montana was as big as it was. Now, social media has taken over and kids can become just as famous (and sometimes even more) just by having an online presence.

Entertainment - Rising to Fame
Sonny With A Chance (2009) vs. Shake It Up (2010)

Sonny With A Chance focused on a young teen from Wisconsin who got her big break by landing a leading role on a popular comedy sketch show in Hollywood called So Random. She must navigate the crazy LA life while dealing with her rising status, the crazy antics of her co-workers, and a rival show.

Shake It Up was centered on two teenage best friends who dreamed of becoming famous dancers. They become one step closer to this dream when they audition and land spots as background dancers on a popular tv show called Shake It Up Chicago. They continue to work hard to truly shine in front of the cameras.

(I debated for a while whether to put these two shows against each other given that they debuted just a year apart. But they are still in different decades and upon rewatching each of their first episodes, the tonality of the shows are vastly different. Sonny With A Chance still possessed the style and writing that other 2000s shows had that came before it, while Shake It Up took on a different and newer approach.)

Let me know what show sounds more interesting and unique based on their descriptions.

Stay tuned for more categories.
