My thoughts regarding a homophobic religious website

51 måneder siden

My articles tend to focus exclusively on racism and homophobia, but writing helps me put my thoughts in order and clear up my ideological dominance in the chaos of my ideas.

The reason for this article is the official website of the Greek Orthodox Church's posted stance homosexuality and my purpose is to show you my beliefs for a hope of coexistence of Christianity with homosexuality. Let me first clarify that I am a Christian.

The only reference to homosexuality in Christianity is made by the Apostle Paul, the most hardcore apostle in my opinion. In his letters to the Corinthians and Romans, the Apostle Paul classifies homosexuality as a sin, as he relates it to paganism. But let me briefly analyze the meaning of sin for the Apostle Paul. Man's nature, for Paul, does not inherit ancestral sin, but man's predisposition and tendency to sin. From the moment man is born it is sure he will sin. The goal is to understand when we sin and to limit the frequency of our sin.

Thus homosexuality for the Apostle Paul and for Orthodoxy is divided into two stages, in tendency and in practice. In ancient Greek the term (for the second stage) is "Praxis" and means the result of an action. Therefore homosexuality as a tendency is not considered a sin, but the realization of this tendency. My initial question on this view was that even an unholy and filthy thought is considered a sin, and the one who is truly sinless is one who has a good thought. Also it sounds completely oxymoronic to me to say that the tendency of homosexuality is acceptable and the practice is not.

The Apostle Paul considered homosexuality a sin because he associated it with paganism. It should also be noted that the Bible must be read by someone bearing in mind that the social conditions of the time it was written were different from those of today. Therefore, the interpretation of the Bible must be appropriate to the social conditions of our day and not to the time in which it was written, although this does not mean that the dominant principles of the faith must be altered.

As for the website, which is approved by the Archbishop, it states that it supports homosexuality, but at the same time if we follow the path of God we will eliminate these attractions. Several young people have even stated that they followed the instructions of their priests and have eliminated 70-80% of their attractions. I can not believe that there are people from the new generation who can believe such a thing. Sin predisposes to the feeling of remorse when you commit it and for this reason homosexuality is not a sin. Moreover, the act should not be considered a sin when it is intended to complete the love and affection of two people.
