This is Zamio's story: 

THE LITTLE CAT 

It was a dark and stormy night in late October. At bedtime, my children insisted that they could hear mewing outside. We live in an isolated house in the countryside and there is no street lighting, so I searched around outside by torchlight - nothing. 

The next day was wild and windy and growing colder. I searched again and found a tiny black kitten crouched in the shelter of a large tree, but she ran away when I tried to approach and I could not catch her. By evening the temperature had dropped further and I could see that the kitten had not moved from her place by the tree roots for several hours. Surely she was becoming hypothermic and would probably be dead by morning. I found an old plastic crate, newspapers, and some old fleecy blankets, and made a shelter under our carport by putting the crate on its side and making a deep nest with the blankets on a thick layer of newspaper. Then I put a bowl of water and a small bowl of cat food just outside the crate. I could do no more - either the kitten would move into the crate overnight, or she would not survive.
