- After patiently waiting six months from spring’s fashion week debut, we’re finally able to purchase our favorite looks from the runway! And here at ELLEgirl, there is a sense of child-like excitement when deciding which designer favorites to adopt first. Since we’re not all factory-built like the goddesses who storm the runway, we found a trend that transcends all body types and can be found on dresses, shirts, skirts, and even shoes: cutouts. The trend was hot on the runways but also on fashionistas like Leighton Meester and Nicole Richie. Whether it’s a small incision to create eyelets or major surgery to reveal both shoulders or an entire back, one thing’s for sure: designers love to dissect.

Who: Ali Larter
What: Good Housekeeping Shine On Awards
Wear: Dolce & Gabbana dress
Ali Larter wore a Dolce and Gabbana polka-dot dress to the annual Shine On Awards honoring remarkable women last night in New York City. The pleated chiffon and playful polka dots were trendy and cheeky, while the deep V-neck and waist-cinching style showed off her curves beautifully. Proenza Schouler spring 2011, Imaxtree
Nothing’s set in stone with these rocks, whose fickle composition sent mixed messages of the best kind down the spring 2011 runways. Cabochons—polished gemstones with a rounded top—were shaken up into various combinations, adding some welcome quirk to the usual bejeweled elegance of fashion week. Proenza Schouler’s jolie-laide necklaces were reminiscent of an Alexander Calder mobile, combining various unexpected shapes and colors into a single, harmonious look. Oscar de la Renta’s chains were a little more old school, with gems in the same color families of translucent pinks and greens. These, alongside some options that are just as precious but a bit less costly, are in stores now. Check it out after the jump!
