Back to the 90s
It's the beginning of a new year, a new you, and a new drive to stick to your new year's resolutions. However, as we're two weeks into the new year, and I am still writing the wrong date, it's time to take a journey into the past, before moving towards the future!
The 1990s, a.k.a "Decade of the Supermodel," this is inevitable my favourite decade. I invite you to remember the hair, makeup and fashion of this revolutionary time!
Firstly, fashion had many influences from TV, music and hollywood. Amongst these, was the Gothic and Grunge trends. Picture Victorian, Edwardian and medieval style clothing, with a sombre palette of midnight black. In contrast, Grunge fashion involved loose fitted clothing, torn jeans, baggy shirts, tank tops, "Clueless" style thick heeled shoes, and cargo/utilitarian fashion.
And speaking of utilitarian, your palette for the 90s is khaki, brown, black and blue!Secondly, over to hair styles: Do you remember the shoulder-length layered, highlighted style, otherwise known as The Rachel? Although one of the most popular styles of the 90s, other styles worn were super short "Demi Moore" cut, sleek bob inspired by Posh Spice, and choppy, wavy bob worn by Terri Hatcher.
Finally, my favourite topic - makeup! During this time, the main palette used was chestnut, copper, chocolate brown-toned colours, and the foundation (if worn at all) was very matte for a natural finish. Lipgloss and lip stick were staples of the 90s. Brown lipstick and lip liner, no blush, with neutral eye shadow was a signature look.I hope you have enjoyed remembering the 1990s!
