CORINE & THE SECRET SHOES #6

When Corine got home, the rain started falling. She entered the house, put her coat and schoolbag on the chair next to the entrance, and walked into her mother's office. 

"Mom, I need to talk to you. It's really important," said Corine hesitantly. 

"Tod and Alex had a fight with the school's principal again?" asked her mother discouraged. 

"No don't worry both of my dumb brothers are fine. They stayed at school to finish a science project... I wanted to talk to you about the shoe shop that just opened, you know where the ice-cream store used to be?" explained the girl. 

"A shoe shop? If it's to ask me for money for a new pair of shoes, it's a no; you already have 43 pairs," responded her mom. 

"I don't want money... It's about a man in the shop. He told me he was the owner and then he gave me a beautiful pair of shoes, but when I wore them this morning something happened. I went back to the shop to talk to him, but he wasn't there... When I got out of the shop though, he was there and he knew my name. I'm scared mom. Should we call the police?" Corine asked her mom who looked confused. 

"Before we do anything, show me those shoes," her mominsisted firmly.

Corine was confused, did her mother just tell her that she was actually a descendant from fairies without wings? That made no sense. Fairies were creatures from fantasy novels, children’s books and movies about magic. 

"Mom that's a good one. Dark creatures, fairies, you should make that your next book instead of the psychology books you write!" Corine laughed.
