Jazz!

81個月之前

Hi Dollies!

World Jazz Day is fast approaching (April 30!) so I thought I’d make this post an appreciation for Jazz.

My mother was always the biggest jazz fanatic, and I learned some well-known jazz tunes from listening with her. I always admired the fast doodle of the trumpet, the sezzy sounds of the saxophone, the crips tap of the high-hat and the deep, strong double bass.

Like many tweens do, I went through an embarrassing phase where I rejected any song that wasn’t iTunes Top 100 or written after 2000, which of course was very daft but I wanted so badly to be cool, and I drifted away from my original tastes.

La La Land recently rekindled my love for jazz: watching Sebastian explain his unique understanding of how the music is composed and performed so passionately and sophisticated. I immediately sought out a jazz playlist on Spotify and listened for an hour, trying to locate those different elements!

On a more practical note, I discovered fast jazz is very good for working on homework or assignments. I know, I know! Maybe you don’t want to spend 3 hours straight listening to jazz while doing boring work, but I highly recommend it. I’ll be honest, when I first worked to jazz, it was the most productive I’d ever been in a long time!

So what do you think? Are you going to try some jazz now? If you’d like me to review another genre of music or film, let me know in the comments too.

Take care,

♡ Joanne
