Baking for Everyone!

108個月之前

There's no nicer present to get for Christmas than a lovely tray of baking... unless you can't eat it! Many people have special dietery requirements, such as allergies, intolerences, or ethical dietery choices such as veganism. While catering to these people may be hard, it's worth it to see the happy smiles on their faces! After asking your friends what their specific dietary requirements are, use these easy tips to find them the perfect recipe.

Search it up!
Get an adult to help you search the internet for recipes tailored to your friend's requirements. Try using terms like "vegan brownies" or "gluten free cookies"! Once you found one that looks good, check the comments to see if others like the recipe or suggest changes - they might be onto something great!

Substitute it!
If you have a recipe in mind for your friend already, but it doesn't cater to their allergies or needs, try substituting for the ingredients they can't eat! Non-dairy milks such as soy or almond milk can be used instead of normal milk, and there are plenty of gluten-free flours available to buy, like rice flour. Eggs can be substituted with commercial egg substitutes or vinegar!

Watch out for...
Make sure every ingredient you use is free of the things your friend is allergic to, and avoid contamination of your kitchen utensils. Be careful with icing sugar, as some types contain gluten! White sugars can also be inappropriate for vegans, as some use animal products in processing. Strict vegans may not even eat honey, so be careful!

Have you ever cooked for someone with special dietery requirements?
