In my last post I told you how I learned to play ping pong better by playing in college against some very strong players. I lost a lot of games in the process, but I learned to serve fast and consistently, and how to block back a slam. I could not dominate the table for a whole evening, but I started winning games.

I liked that the guys treated me like everyone else even though I was the only woman who played.

One young man was new to the dorm games. After I skunked him, he put down his paddle and said "You play pretty good ping-pong for a girl."

I beat him as badly as a man would have done. His comment showed that he was a poor sport, and resented being beaten by a woman.

He deserved my response. “No, you play pretty good ping-pong... for a girl."

There are still some men that do not like competing with women and do not like losing to us. Don’t let them make you feel bad about your success.
