Confession: we have a slight obsession with wedges. Why, you ask? Well, that’s easy. Wedges give off the sophistication of a high heel without the pain. Simple as that. We like having a sturdier ground to walk on and our feet generally thank us at the end of the day. Additionally, these spectacular footwear can spice up a dress, skirt, or pants instantly. And of course, we’d love to share some of our most-loved wedges with you.

Over the past decade at the helm, John Galliano—with his ultra-feminine style and provocative showmanship as tools—has invigorated the Christian Dior label to be the jewel of the Bernard Arnault’s LVMH fashion powerhouse, but after a brush with bigotry that was publicized to the point of mortification, LVMH decided that fashion’s bad boy and his anti-Semitic outbursts were a bit too much of a liability for the company name. Once on par with French legends like Paul Poiret and Jean Paul Gaultier, it is Galliano’s arrest and dismissal from his women’s fall fashion show in March that has dominated media attention. Though some personnel at LVMH vied for a second chance for the fashion heavy weight, who attributed his self-destructive faux-pas to multiple addictions for which he has recently been persuaded into treatment, Bill Gaytten, the relatively under-the-radar designer who worked with Galliano for 23 years, has been named the creative head of John Galliano’s namesake label. Though it has yet to be decided which talent will be plucked to hold the reins of Christian Dior, murmurs can be heard that Gaytten will be chosen to head this billion dollar label, as well.

Photo: Getty Images Who: Emily Browning What: 2nd Annual amfAR Inspiration Gala at Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, France on June 23rd Wear: Louis Vuitton fall 2011 playsuit and Minaudière Petit Bijou Attendees came drenched in diamonds, gowns, sleek suits, and bright smiles on Thursday’s amfAR Inspiration Gala in Paris. The event is held in celebration of menswear that helps fund the Foundation’s AIDS research programs. Sleeping Beauty star Emily Browning arrived with boyfriend Max Irons and opted for a matching black-and-white get-up. Unlike the other guests, the 22-year-old Australian actress did away with draped ball gowns, dazzling jewelry, and a fancy hair-do. Instead, she dressed comfortably in a Louis Vuitton fall 2011 playsuit complete with a gem-cut LV clutch and peep-toe pumps over knee-high tights. The rather somber and gray attire left Browning standing in the shadows of the brighter-dressed, like Diane Kruger in a fiery red YSL gown, and even Fergie who also sported an all-black LV ensemble.

It seems this year’s resort looks are just what we’re wanting for the sunniest season of the year—hair wise. Casual, tousled waves made an appearance at a staggering number of shows this season. Frankly, we think it’s fantastic that such a languid hair style has been the style of choice. It’s summer, and we don’t want to put any more work into our hair than necessary.

    Norma Kamali

It’s officially summer and there’s just one week left until the fourth of July so we asked Norma Kamali, maker of some of the world’s most famous swimsuits, for her tips on looking great in very small pieces of fabric.

Swimwear is the least amount of clothing you will wear outside of the home.  We reveal a lot about ourselves in the choice of swimsuit we wear so ideally you’d start by setting a date in your calendar one month before you plan to start shopping. On that day, I’d recommend standing nude in front of the mirror and evaluating yourself.  Take a photo and look at it objectively and you will know the work you need to do to feel good about revealing so much of yourself literally and metaphorically. Once the picture’s taken, the challenge begins.

Photo: Bruce Weber for Miu Miu

When Hailee Steinfeld started hitting the red carpet in Miu Miu’s best looks, and then popped up at the brand’s fall fashion show in March, we guessed she’d make the perfect face of Prada’s little sister. Just a few months later the fourteen-year-old Academy Award nominated actress has made her fashion campaign debut.  Bruce Weber shot Steinfeld in what looks like a scene from her breakout film, True Grit. In the past, Mert and Marcus have shot Miu Miu’s starlet filled campaigns—Katie Holmes, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst—in front of vamp backgrounds with high fashion makeup and plenty of gloss. Steinfeld, however, is all natural in front of Weber’s camera. She’s wearing black, with the trompe l’oeil glitter wedges that are sure to be fall’s must have shoe and a giant brown velvet clutch. We’re liking this new direction.  You?

In this net-obsessed time in history, the web’s become an unquenchable beast, and it’s time to take the bull by its horns, fashion lovers. Ford Models said it best when they tweeted: “At this point if you’re in fashion or follow it and not on the Twitter, then have fun hanging out with stegosaurus & triceratops…”

The same can be said about the ever-developing blogosphere, and Wikifashion is on the verge of being your one-stop, tell-all fashion site. Modeled around our favorite go to source of info (for every project, test or paper) Wikipedia, Wikifashion allows you to catalogue your favorite brands, fashion designers, and shows from season to season. Free of bias and advertising, this site is a breath of fresh air.

ELLEgirl caught up with Madeline Veenstra, creator of Wikifashion alongside co-creator and favorite technie Coen Hyde, to chat about the site’s beginnings and its well-deserved future.

Photo: Patrick McMullan Who: Olivia Palermo What: Cinema Society and Grey Goose screening of The Ledge at Landmark Sunshine Cinema on July 21st Wear: Victoria Beckham dress, leopard-print Charlotte Olympia platforms, Sondra Robert satin clutch Arriving at the NYC screening for The Ledge in a Victoria Beckham spring 2011 shift dress and leopard Olypmia platforms was the always fashion-forward Olivia Palermo. She paired the tangerine frock with a delicate hot pink petal Sondra Robert clutch and gold jewelry. With its curved black piping and pockets, a dress like this one reminds us that it’s all in the details. If you need a lesson in color blocking, take it from the style icon at her finest. The Ledge, starring Patrick Wilson, Charlie Hunnam, and Liv Tyler,  is an IFC film that captures the lethal battle of wills between a Christian and an atheist.

Ever wonder what a designer does all day? We asked Wes Gordon to keep a diary, but first, he wants you to know what he’s wearing: Lightweight washed navy zip-up Dior Homme windbreaker, coral pink Prada shirt, and old, heavily-worn in YSL jeans with black high-tops.

Belly shirts? Oh no. Crop tops? Oh yes! Belly shirts are a relic of the ’90s that should definitely not make a comeback into the current decade, but their latest reincarnation seen in the Yves Saint Laurent and Rebbeca Taylor resort 2012 collections—crop tops—are perfectly fresh! The breezy pieces are a great way to show a little bit of skin (and we said little!) without being overly revealing. By pairing the look with high-waisted anything—shorts, pants, skirts—you can show off a small strip of your usually hidden torso in a totally appropriate way. If you’d rather keep your tummy hidden, layer a crop top over a dress or fitted tank to add a cute extra layer. Here are the crop tops we’d love to rock this summer:
