Love em’ or hate em’, they’re here to stay. That’s right: high-waisted pants were huge on the runways this year and won’t be going anywhere for quite some time; we couldn’t be happier! We love the sophisticated, put-together look, but we all know that it can be difficult to wear the trend while still maintaining a figure-flattering silhouette. The worst is having your fierce high-waisted pants look like mom pants instead. But with the ’70s in full swing everywhere from Marc Jacobs to Gucci, we’ve figured out how to tailor the rest of your outfit so that high-waisted trousers will actually become the most flattering thing to happen to your figure since Spanx! Just remember: less is more when it comes to putting together an outfit with high-waisted pants. Try and keep the rest of your ensemble relatively simple to compensate for the extra material of the pants.

Check out how Leighton mastered the pants looking as chic (and slim) as ever. She wears the trend just right since she’s doing the two must’s when it comes to wearing high-waisted pants:
1.) A tight-fitting top, and
2.) Heels.

Rule #1: A more form-fitting top balances out the extra material in the pants, and makes the overall ensemble look less full—and much cleaner. Simple tanks like these are great transition pieces from summer to fall, too.

Check out how the lovely Jessica Alba, Mischa Barton, and Liv Tyler look polished and sleek in high-waisted black trousers.

Rule # 2: Heels always give your leg that extra inch, so wear a heel with high-waisted pants for legs that go on for days. Any basic pumps will do, but here are some super cute suggestions for an extra long and lean look.

Lastly, here are some excellent options for you to follow the high wasted trouser trend. We loved how Eva Mendez looked in these pants so much that we just had to find out where she got them.
