In 2009, London Fashion Week celebrated its 25th anniversary. International press flew in,
Burberry returned home from Milan and the celebrity quotient rivaled that of New York Fashion Week. Somehow (probably thanks to a crop of brilliant young designers and Burberry’s decision to stay put) they’ve managed to maintain that momentum for two years. They changed locations, to Somerset House, hired a PR firm and now, for the spring 2012 season, the British Fashion Council is appointing cultural ambassadors to further promote British fashion. First up is Laura Bailey, the British model, writer and mother of two usually found at the center of London fashion happenings. In a release, she said “I’m proud of my new ambassadorship with the BFC and I am thrilled to be to working with and promoting young British talent. I think it’s a really exciting time for British fashion—via the shows, in the shops and on the streets. I’m also keen to work with the BFC on their collaboration with the film and art world.” Bailey will be meeting with designers and stylists before they show their collections in September to get the inside scoop on what’s about to hit the runway. Who do you think should join her as the next BFC ambassador?
