2016 Favourites
Another year has come to an end! So, for this blog post, I have decided to reflect on 2016 with my favourite trends of the year.
Starting with my brand of the year, which has to be Vetements! Luxury streetwear was a huge trend this year, and was made popular with help from brands such as Gosha Rubchinskiy, Off-White, Hood By Air, and of course Vetements- a brand loved by celebrities, from Rihanna and Kanye to Céline Dion. What I love about the brand is how they combine the mundane (e.g. a DHL t-shirt) with high-fashion, and also the pop-culture references, such as the Juicy Couture Velour, Star Wars skirt and 'Justin 4ever' hoodie.
With my outfits above, I chose items that would contrast each other (e.g. the crop top and oversized jacket) as it's a key part to the 'Vetements' look. I think something like a satin slip dress would work perfectly with the slouched jacket, or a cute skirt with the long sleeve shirt.
Lastly, I have picked out two of my favourite trends of 2016. The first being the puffer jacket! The puffer was (and still is) everywhere, and seen on many catwalks, such as Balenciaga, Raf Simons and Acne Studios. Again, this is a look I like to style with contrasting pieces, such as the lace cami top layered over the t-shirt. The second trend is the patches and pins trend. I love a DIY approach to fashion as it allows you to create something totally unique and personal to you. I would go for the more kitsch, cartoon style patches, but you could take a Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana approach with vintage style pins and embroidery.
Thank you for reading! What were your favourite trends of the year?
