Sixties Styling

il y a 98 mois

For this blog post, I am delving into a style decade that I rarely write about - the '60s! This is the decade that saw the popularisation of the miniskirt (with help from Mary Quant), Hippies, and of course models such as Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Edie Sedgwick.

Space-Age fashion was also huge during the sixties, with designers such as André Courrèges and Pierre Cardin creating looks with PVC, go-go boots, block colours and boxy silhouettes. With my first looks, I was inspired by this trend and styled micro-mini dresses with white PVC go-go boots. Although I stuck to monochrome prints with yellow accents, combining primary colours, or orange and green together would work perfectly.

Of course, you don't have to wear the look from head-to-toe. The Pop Art movement really flourished during the sixties, with artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Litchenstein in particular. This is by far my favourite art style, and has had a huge influence on many fashion designers - the most obvious being Jeremy Scott, but also Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Along with the Campbell soup sweater and Banana T-shirt, I chose some 'No-Entry' earrings, a newspaper clutch, paint splat bag and PVC boots to complete the look. Pins and patches are also great, and can add a unique and personal stamp to your clothes!
