Your Five Senses

Do you remember learning about the five senses as a child? Taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound - we use our senses every day! There are actually more than five senses in the human body, but we won't be talking about that in this blog post. We'll be talking about how we can use each of our five senses to help us relax!



Sight
Look around you. How does your environment make you feel? If it is cluttered, you might feel better after cleaning up a bit, or maybe a vase of flowers would help the view. Seeing positive things can help us feel a lot better!


Smell
What kinds of smells help you relax? I use scented candles to calm down, but you could use anything you love the smell of! You can even buy special scent boxes that you can smell when stressed- lavender is very calming.


Taste
We all know about comfort food! It's important to remember that food is meant for the mind as well as for health. As long as you have a reasonably healthy diet most days, a bit of chocolate as a treat can help you relax without being harmful to your body!


Touch
This is one of my favourite senses! Interesting sensations like a plush blanket or a stress ball are wonderful to help you relax. I like to pat my cat when I need to chill out!


Sound
Many people use sound for relaxation by listening to their fave music! I personally love to listen to recordings of rainfall - what a beautiful thing to hear.
