Buying Fair Trade

il y a 109 mois

The fair trade movement aims to promote sustainable trade that treats workers well. So many of the products we buy every day are produced by badly treated employees in developing countries who are not paid much money - and that's not fair! By buying fair trade certified items, you know that the majority of the money you pay goes back to the employees in the developing world, instead of the big companies that are already rich.

What kind of things are fair trade?
Not everything has a fair trade version, but many types of luxury products like coffee, chocolate, craft items, and sugar have fair trade certified products on the market.

How can you tell if it's fair trade?
Look for a trustworthy fair trade certification from organisations like the World Fair Trade Organisation. Check online to see if there are any Fair Trade only shops in your area!

How does buying fair trade help?
By ensuring the people who make and grow the things you buy are paid a fair wage, it ensures that they are able to live more comfortably and healthily. It also shows big companies that people appreciate employees being treated well, and helps spread wealth around the world instead of centering it only in countries like America, Australia, and the UK, while developing countries like Guatemala, Palestine, Kenya, and Bangladesh are forced lower and lower into poverty.

I personally buy fair trade whenever I can, as I would prefer to support well paid producers than companies that harm and mistreat their employees!

Have you ever bought a fair trade product?
