At the Lacoste show this morning, there were still the polo shirts and the crisp, tennis court-ready pants that made it a household name—but if the collection proved anything, it’s that the label isn’t afraid of change. The biggest transformation came behind the scenes, with Felipe Oliveira Baptista taking over the reins as head designer. For spring ’12—his first for Lacoste—he made his presence known through inventive silhouettes (think exaggerated armholes), reinterpreted fabrics (the signature pique dress was knitted in silk), and a renewed elegance (even the humble parka looked sharp). “We tried to make it very, very new and exciting,” explained Baptista backstage after the show, counting “the twist on cuts and the color-block” as two of his contributions to the new direction of the label. “But at the same time,” he added, “we took it kind of easy and can still find classic pieces. The traditional customer is always going to have their things.” That’s not the only way that the brand evolved this season; Baptista also downplayed the iconic crocodile logo. “It was because the idea was to make Lacoste something you can wear head-to-toe, and if you wear it head-to-toe, you don’t want 10 crocodiles on your outfit,” he said with a laugh. “It can still say Lacoste without a crocodile.” And while he noted that Lacoste’s roots would always be in tennis, he himself isn’t exactly the sport’s biggest fan. When asked who he was rooting for at the US Open, Baptista just shrugged and smiled.

    Ihana kesä - poissa

    160 kuukautta sitten 28 kommentti(a)

With fashion week comes fashion parties and judging from last night’s crowd, the industry was in need of some stress relief. Believe it or not, last night’s soiree circuit started uptown at Phillips de Pury for Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida’s Richard Hambleton retrospective. Thanks to the event’s other host—Giorgio Armani—many swans showed up to show off their best Armani pieces while circulating between two floors full of Hambleton’s work. The artist, who’s been called “the godfather of street art,” proved tempting enough to attract guests like Lauren Hutton, Karolina Kurkova, Bar Refaeli, Caroline Winberg and Doutzen Kroes, not to mention a downtown contingent including Theodora Richards in a barely-there catsuit, Alexa Chung in a quirky-cool dress with a cut-out neck, and Sky Ferrerira’s psychedelic frock.

A big congratulations is in order for Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson! They recently celebrated their 5 year anniversary and as you probably know, that is quite an achievement in La-La land! Diane is currently in Paris shooting the movie “Farewell, My Queen” based on the life of French Queen Marie Antoinette, and she decided to take advantage of the fact that she happened to be working in the most romantic city in the world. They arranged for Joshua to fly in, and then they went to a romantic dinner together and gave each other gifts.

Diane says that even though it’s hard being in long distance relationships, there are a few methods to make it work. She said, “Life is more important than work. We just celebrated our fifth anniversary. We met up in Paris, gave each other gifts and went to dinner – it was just lovely being together.

It’s hard sustaining relationships at a distance, but if you want to be together, it comes down to that. And I have had failed relationships because of a lack of commitment to that.

We have the three-week rule – we have to see each other, otherwise you drift. But we also enjoy our independence. We have our own lives and have a lot to bring back into the relationship because of that. I’m very independent. I’m not sure how I’d deal with someone who wanted to be with me 24/7.”

    Asu Starkolikoilla

How are designers making spring florals feel fresh? They’re printing them onto tailored pantsuits for a head-to-toe trend. Peter Som‘s punchy orange and blue suit, at left, features warped floral photographs while ADAM‘s roses, center, are slightly more whimsical. If you look closely at Prabal Gurung‘s purple version, at right, you’ll notice the flowers are actually wilting—though the effect’s no less vibrant because of it.

Fashion thoughts usually turn to bridal post-couture. More than one editor in this office has uttered the words, “I never wanted to get married, but now I need a reason to buy Givenchy couture!” But yesterday, The Row’s SS12 presentation, inspired similar thoughts—about pants. The Olsen’s presented an entirely white collection of dresses (usually layered over pants), a skirt suit and a kimono-like gown embroidered with silver. But it was the ethereal take on a tux, above left, that made us think, “What could be cooler than getting married in pants?” Because the Row’s based on exquisite fabrics and simple, impeccable tailoring, a pair of pajama-like trousers turn black tie appropriate and a train flowing from a tux makes perfect sense. Would you wear any of the above looks on your big day?

You wouldn’t think that one would be able to mistake one of the world's most famous actors for a malicious thief, but apparently, it is very possible. Just the other day when Leonardo DiCaprio entered a jewelry shop in Sydney, Australia, where he is currently shooting his new movie “The Great Gatsby”, the poor sales assistant who was managing the store all by her self thought he was there to rob her! Leo was wearing dark glasses, a baseball cap and a hooded top and was accompanied by two similarly dressed body guards, so granted, she assumed the worst.

The shop owner shared his story with a local Sydney news paper, "Linda was working on her own and I was next door grabbing a coffee. Linda was serving a customer when the two big bodyguards approached. The customer sees what’s happening and says, ‘This doesn’t look good’. Linda sent the customer next door to get me, thinking the shop is about to be robbed by these guys. By the time I get in there Linda has realized who she was serving and let me know everything was all right.”

What a pleasant turn of events that must have been for her! Thinking you were going to get robbed, and then all of a suddenly you’re standing face to face with the ever-so-dreamy Leo!
