Werk It at Work

hace 21 meses

I've never given fashion advice as a blogger because I honestly don't trust my own opinion :3

BUT, if there's one thing I am confident in, it's my Office Chic style.

Many of us dollies are all grown up in real life and are now working in office environments where we have to subscribe to a certain code. A lot of us may feel like we can't really express ourselves through clothes at work - I certainly do. So, I've discovered some ways to spruce up an otherwise mundane office outfit.

Tip #1: Leather

Replacing a cotton/polyester item of clothing with one that's leather does volumes for an outfit. I mainly incorporate leather skirts into what I wear to work, but the same can be done with jackets or even a tasteful top.

Tip #2: Layered Jewelry

I am obsessed with jewelry. I love wearing rings and anklets and multiple necklaces... But I had to tone it down once I started my 9 to 5, so instead of wearing them all at once, I opted for layering two necklaces on one day, and wearing some rings and an anklet on another.

Tip #3: Sheer or Fishnet Socks

Wearing these with my work heels have elevated so many of my outfits. While fishnet stockings may not be work-appropriate, fishnet socks and sheer socks are great alternatives for adding a bit more umph to your bare legs.

Tip #4: Bold Blazers

Keeping your skirt/pants/blouse/dress combo monochromatic while adding a completely different coloured blazer or jacket on top really gives a 'big-city' aesthetic.

Tip #5: Platform Loafers

Platform loafers have changed my life! I've never been into wearing regular flats to work, and normal loafers aren't my thing. I needed something that gave me the same feeling as my beloved combat boots while still being appropriate for work. Platform loafers were perfect.

Tip #6: Patterned Pants

I realized that my shirts didn't always have to do all the work of  making my outfit interesting. I have started to keep many of my shirts pastel, and spice things up with my pants. From checkered to plaid to flower prints, they offer something unique to what I wear.

I truly hope this article has offered some sort of help to those who may have been struggling. Good luck to all you hardworking grown ups. Just breathe and trudge.
