ASK LYONDA - FAKE FRIENDS?
Dear Lyonda,Recently, on a school trip, I overheard one of my friends negatvely commenting on my appearance. I’m pretty upset but I don’t know how to approach the situation. Any advice?
Hey Doll,
Sounds like you have a classic case of fake friends. At some point in life, everyone will experience some sort of a frenemy so don’t panic, you’re not alone. First and foremost, make sure you have someone you can talk to about this, preferably a parent or teacher. Making someone aware of your situation will benefit you in the long run in case things escalate further. Secondly, avoid texting/calling them. Trust me, the whole scenario of deleting messages and name calling through a screen will result in a sloppy mess with no solution. I recommend meeting this person at a local cafe. Sit down, have a coffee and confront them in a mature manner. You never know what they might be going through too. Also, keep screenshots of any messages they send you. This could work in your favor.- L xo
