The UK polices its advertisements with a much firmer hand than the U.S. In 2007 they fined L’Oreal for putting falsies on Penelope Cruz and last year they chastised Rimmel for putting fake lashes on Georgia May Jagger. Now they’re going after Cover Girl for doing the same in their newest mascara ad, despite Cover Girl’s asterisked disclaimer, “Lash inserts were applied to both of Nicole’s lashes to add lash count before applying mascara.” As the Daily Mail points out, the use of fake lashes contradicts the question running the campaign, “Is Your Volume True or ‘False’?” but the real question is, do you even care? Mascara ads are about as realistic, and as purposeful, as perfume ads.  Chances are, since you first swiped mascara on your lashes in 8th or 9th grade and they didn’t actually extend up to your eyebrow, you haven’t actually believed such ads feature untouched eyes.  Like a fragrance, they’re selling you an idea. Unless of course you do think they’re real in which case, really?

When visiting the world's biggest fashion metropolis, it's hard not to get inspired. Many celebrities let themselves get carried away when visiting Paris, they incorporate girly elegance into their travel wardrobe and try their best to give the French city's signature style "Parisian Chic" justice. To really succeed with the style you have to scrap all the latest trends, Uggs and everything mini. The Parisian style is all about timelessness. Here are a few Paris loving celebrities who we think did pretty well last time they visited the city!

This year’s CFDA Awards offered a slew of creative looks—Gaga’s spikes, Karolina’s sequined hood, Daphne’s mantilla-like crown—but it was Miranda Kerr’s black Michael Kors gown that had our heads swiveling. She only gave birth to baby Flynn five months ago, and it takes mad skills to make those cut outs look classy, let alone black tie appropriate.  Also, we thought, for a second, she was wearing a swimsuit. She’s not actually. (It’s MK resort, despite reports to the contrary).  But the idea’s not so far fetched.

French women are the undisputed masters of elegant and effortless style. Always chic, never overdressed is an American fantasy that 27-year-old Valentine Fillol-Cordier’s nailed perfectly. The London-based stylist and model’s been around the fashion milieu for nearly ten years, a success she owes mainly to her unique style, which she described as “bourgeois homeless.” Born and bred in Paris, she started out in the modeling world at a young age and now works as a creative consultant with the renowned French designer Charles Anastase. She’s worked with the industry’s top talents like Terry Richardson and Juergen Teller and was recently chosen as an ambassador of the new social shopping website Motilo.com, which will allow users to shop with friends and create complete outfits, using features like videoconferencing. We chatted about her career, inspiration and projects.

Ok Grey's Anatomy fans, stop reading now if you don't want to ruin your day. McDreamy, aka Patrick Dempsey, has decided that the upcoming eighth season of Grey's will be his last. What? Grey's Anatomy without Derek Shepherd?! That's just not possible. Which makes us wonder what will happen to Meredith and the rest of the cast....? The creator of the show, Shonda Rimes, has said "It might be a last hurrah for a lot of them." Shonda even said, "I feel like Meredith and Derek are meant to be together forever, and we're going to make sure that in the end they end up together, one would hope- unless one of them dies or something." OMG! (tvline)

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 might be the most tragic season yet, and you know what? We can't wait!

Artist's these days may have top class security, but a crazed fan can still slink through and cause trouble! Rihanna had quite the security scare when performing for the Today Show on the streets of New York this Friday. A male fan grabbed her as she walked by, pulling her against a metal barricade. Scary! Like a true pro though, Rihanna didn't miss a beat and right after security had cut her loose, she went back up on stage and continued the show as if nothing had happened! She later laughed the whole thing off on Twitter, so we're assuming the little incident didn't leave her too startled.

With one week left to go until the CFDAs, designers are in campaign mode. There are four stories about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in today’s WWD. One takes a look at the sisters over the years, another eyes their online strategy, yet another their business acumen and in the most personal, Bridget Foley walks the sisters through turning their love of fashion into a second career. The most telling quote in all of the stories comes from Dualstar’s president, Jill Collage. She says, “Ashley and Mary-Kate want to evolve every brand into a lifestyle brand.”

Until then, the coverage offers a few bits of new information:

    THE FRESH PRINTS OF STARPLAZA:

This week’s Styled Outfits had us looking through the same kaleidoscope designers used in their Spring collections. Stripes, checks, spots, stars, cheetah— you name it, they used it! Several all at once, even. The style “taboo” of prints on prints is no longer a shudder-worthy mix, thanks to the experimental, brave street stylers being blogged for our boundary-pushing pleasures.

Aside from seeing the traditional spots, don’t miss the gorgeous chinoiserie, Ellsworth Kelly geometry, and insanely stunning giant orchids. Cuts are simple and feminine and call on the best of the 40’s up to even the disco 70’s.

Get your groove on in these far-out Pattern Play picks!
