Halloween: Origins

It's almost that time of the year again! By the title, you may have guessed - it's Halloween. With Halloween on the horizon, I thought it was about time to summon some words and write some blogs.

What is Halloween or, should I say, All Hallows' Evening?

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the 31st of October annually. It was originally called All Hallows Evening but is now simplified to Halloween, Allhalloween, All Hallows Eve or All Saint's Eve. The well-known celebration that involves superstition, parades, costumes and those tasty treats actually originated from a Celtic holiday of Samhain.

Note: Celts were a group in Europe and Asia in the pre-Roman times. I really did go back to the Origins!

This holiday was used to mark the end of the harvest season but it then evolved into an event where people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off ghosts.

Nowadays, Halloween provides a different purpose for everyone. Whether the holiday is just for being someone else for a day, becoming one with the spiritual or just a good reason to pimp out your house, clothes and makeup it is hauntingly fun.

What's your favourite part of Halloween?
