OMG! So, I'm writting this just one day after that wonderful Giardini release. I have no words for what I'm feeling. I'm so happy that Stardoll took my plants suggestions for the new collection!! So, to start, I chose a plant that is very popular. The Livistona Rotundifolia.

Even though the tag says Livistona Chinesis, this one is a Livistona Rotundifolia. It's fine to mispell them, really. Many palms from the Livistona genus look so much alike, with only a few minor details separating them apart. And in general, every palm with fan-shaped leaves are called Chinese Palm. Rotundifolia stands for "round leaves" in Latin, and the real Chinese Palm has it's leaves more like a V shape with the edges of the leaf bending down, whereas these are more round and complete.

Well, in the picture they aren't totally open because the palm is young. the leaves get totally round when completely mattured. The Livistona Genus belongs to the Arecaceae and comprises more than 30 species, so no wonder we're going to get confused. I dare you to NOT Google "Livistona". You're going to get an headache trying to figure out which is which.

Widely grown for it's exotic appearance, it can be found around all the globe in moderate temperature zones to cooler places like France and the Netherlands due to it's high resistance to cold and occasional frosts. Yes! It's the best palm to own if you live in a country where it gets really cold (Northern Europe, for example). Don't expose it to constant snow though, it will burn and if it persists it can die. Covering it under a balcony/porch or other larger trees would be good. If you have it in a pot, you can bring it either inside or just leave it on the porch. As they are resistant, there's no need to water them more than once in two weeks in Winter both inside and outside. When in Summer, give it a big jar of water if it is outside. If placed inside as a houseplant, a glass of water a week should be fine. If the plant is at least a meter high and is in a larger container, two glasses of water is best.

They are full sun plants and will do fine if they are, as adults, outside during cold months. But they can also adapt to shadier conditions. When the plant feels established, in Spring it will develop tiny orange fruits that all palms grow and they will mature and release the seeds. They only develop in warm conditions, so this might be hard to archieve on a country with short summer periods.

When you see burnt leaves, don't cut them off. Let them dry completely and then remove them. It's always best to emulate the plant's natural behavior. in the wild they don't have someone cutting them, right? They rely on stronger winds to detach the completely dry leaves.

This plant has become trendy in hotels and parks for its tropical vibe and it really does transport us to a tropical place when around them.
