Fabergé Eggs
Some of the eggs from Oliver_xx's collection.
"Easter" is the first thing that comes to our minds when we set our eyes in these beauties. Easter is the happiest occasion for the followers of the Russian Orthodox faith. On this event, families get together and exchange gifts, and decorated eggs are the popular choice. Although they are normally handpainted, there was a certain someone who received eggs... covered in precious stones: Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia, mother to Tzar Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Imperial Russia. She was said to love these eggs and cherish them so much that she took her last-received egg with her before fleeing Russia in the advent of the 1917 Revolution.
Every year, her son Nicholas would give her a different egg. And the Fabergé eggs weren't just " bejeweled eggs." they were THE bejeweled eggs. So you can bet she got the best ones. They were done with perfection, made in gold, platinum and enamel and delicately adorned with a plethora of all sorts of precious stones, such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds. But they could be as simple as just the family's portraits engraved all around. These precious things often contained surprises inside, like mythical creatures, boats, golden eggs, flowers and symbols of monarchy and the Romanovs. The first Fabergé egg was made in 1885, and was a simple golden egg with a chicken inside.
I might try and collect them. They represent a time of fairytale that unfortunately will never come back... I liked the green one. What's your favorite one? (There are more on Stardoll, but I decided to feature just the classic ones.)
