My So-Called Life

vor 100 Monaten

As we move into Fall, the weather is transitioning and gradually becoming colder. A reoccurring trend for this season is of course Grunge. This style is super effortless and easy (very handy for those going back to school), but also perfect for layering according to the weather.

For this blog post, I have drawn inspiration from Angela Chase in My So-Called Life! Angela's drab dressing and knack for layering makes her a perfect pin-up for this trend.

Starting off with some general staple items, I would choose thermals, worn-out denim jackets, sweaters, thick-knit cardigans, shapeless jeans and long skirts, denim overalls, and tea or slip dresses. To accessorize, chunky boots (doc. martens are a classic!), backpacks, slouchy socks and beanie hats work best - for this look I would try and avoid jewellery completely. Try and stick a colour palette of maroon, navy, copper, bronze, forest green, grey and black.

Two key parts to this look that go hand-in-hand are of course layering, and clashing prints. Go-to prints would be dark and ditsy florals, stripes, and of course, plaid. If you're stuck on what pieces to layer, you could try: A long-sleeve thermal under a t-shirt or tea dress, a slouchy jumper under overalls or over a dress, and a patterned vest worn over anything. A flannel shirt may be an obvious choice for any Grunge look, but it's so versatile and can be worn in multiple ways, for example; buttoned-up under a sweater, around the waist, or worn open as a light jacket.
