THE ANTI-STARPLAZA

50 måneder siden

In the wake of 2020 and all of it’s inconveniences, we saw the StarPlaza reform itself and change the way it supplied us with new fashion collections - now presenting one outfit per day, with an additional littering of Archive and other releases between. For many users, this was a spanner in the works and stifled their usual rhythm of creating new outfits on the regular, but out of the ashes came a revolution; an uprising of the talent nested not within the walls of Stardoll’s offices, but behind the screens of their highly skilled and creative users.

StarDesign Hair gives all of us the toolkit to create customised hairstyles to our own liking. Some users have even reached mind-blowing levels of detail with multi-part wigs and facial features/shadings. But, a number of dolls were able to think outside of the box and design next-level clothing items and accessories, using the StarDesign Hair studio to bring their creations to life. I was fortunate enough to chat with a few of my favorite StarDesign Hair clothing designers and find out more about their influences and process. Each of the designers are shown wearing their own creations.

What inspires your designs? I design for myself. For me, that's the most important and inspiring thing. Of course it's normal and expected to follow the popular taste, but it's also known that the "design industry/market" has some issues. I want to stay true and genuine to myself, so what I try to do is reflect in my work what I judge interesting to design. Just like everyone, I also use references of real life designers that match my taste, but I enjoy the freedom of stepping my feet out of the line and changing/creating whatever I want to as well.

When did you start designing? I stayed away from Stardoll for three years and came back a few months ago. Got straight into designing with the intention of only doing it for myself but ended up changing my initial plan, so since the comeback, I created a lot to evolve my skills in a short period of time.

How much time do you spend on each design? This is very relative. I don't have a reserved time of the day for that, sometimes I start designing before the lunch time and finishing it a day later. Other times I randomly get inspired at 2 AM and create something new in 30 minutes. My routine can get pretty messy so the time dedicated to designs will follow that.

Are you working on anything right now? If so, what can you tell us about it? As I said before, I created a lot in the last weeks, so now I decided to take a break for a few days to organize my thoughts about designing and plan new things to bring into the game. Stay tuned, everyone!

What inspires your designs? Anything and everything that sparks my interest in the moment.

When did you start designing? Several months ago, I think. I’m just getting used to it, to be honest.

How much time do you spend on each design? Depends on the piece and how passionate I am about the piece.

Are you working on anything right now? If so, what can you tell us about it? I’m going to work on some customs and then design some other stuff after that. Nothing specific in my mind.

What inspires your designs? I usually find inspiration on Tumblr, Instagram, or runways.

When did you start designing? I tried to design for the first time in 2018, but it wasn't very good and I started again this year in May, this time with more motivation and support.

How much time do you spend on each design? It depends, usually from 1 to 3 hours.

Are you working on anything right now? If so, what can you tell us about it?  I’m not working on anything right now because I’m busy with school, but i'll try my best to come back with something new and unique as soon as possible!

What inspires your designs? A lot of things, actually, but mostly It's real-life clothing that I find beautiful and important, for example, this dress was inspired by the one that Paris Hilton wore on her 21st birthday. I tend to find muse in famous and strong women, some of my previous designs are inspired by Carrie Bradshaw's nude dress, and Victoria Beckham's little black dress, among others.

When did you start designing? It's been a long journey, I've been on and off Stardoll since about 2010, I think I even pre-date StarDesign hair to be honest! So, It's safe to say that I've been designing from the day I joined, mostly for my use, but I just started selling my designs about three weeks ago, when I debuted with the Paris Hilton dress, It was well-received, and I've been having so much more fun designing since then.

How much time do you spend on each design? It really depends! I try to make my designs as detailed as I can with as little parts as possible, so I don't spend crazy lot time on them, usually I can finish a dress in one to two hours, If I have the general idea of what I want to design.

Are you working on anything right now? If so, what can you tell us about it? Yes! I'm working on a dress from Versace spring summer 2020 collection, very similar to the Versace dress Stardoll released for April HotBuys in 2019. I can't wait to show you the finished piece!

What inspires your designs? Fashion archives and new independent brands. I try not to go for obvious choices, but instead find something that is memorable and challenging to create.

When did you start designing? In 2016 I made Lady Gaga’s cans wig and it quickly became popular, it motivated me to continue designing.

How much time do you spend on each design? Depends on the design, I usually give it a couple of days, an hour each day to always have a fresh perspective.

Are you working on anything right now? If so, what can you tell us about it? Yes, I am! I think it’s time to try my hand at fur and lace.

It’s no secret that StarDesign hair garments are becoming increasingly popular amongst the Stardoll population, and the aformentioned designers prove that there really are no limits to what is out there. I am a stark supporter of the creative talent here on Stardoll, and I truly believe it is the driving force of our community - with that said, please get out there and support your favorite designers, as well as the ones mentioned in this post and the ones who are just starting out.

What do you think of StarDesign Hair being used to make fashion items?
Is this the future of fashion on Stardoll?

Sound off in the comments and let me know your thoughts on swapping the StarPlaza for stylish hair creations.
