Touch Typing

75 måneder siden

Hi Dollies!

Perhaps you’ve heard of this term before, but I hadn’t until recently. Touch typing involves having a good knowledge of the keyboard, and being able to type with all 10 fingers without looking for the keys. In my opinion, it’s a very useful skill to have in life.

When I was in primary school, my parents introduced a game called ‘Typing Tournament.’ It trained me to remember keyboard keys with speed and accuracy while taking me on a journey through a medieval kingdom. I defeated many typing challenges and progressed toward my final test with the boss, The Dark Typist! The final battle was a typing race against that formidable opponent. (A big deal back then!)

I didn’t know it at the time, but ‘Typing Tournament’ was teaching me to touch type. Over the years, I’ve maintained this skill and realized how nifty touch typing can be. This is increasingly valuable now, when technology is playing a larger part in our lives.

The advantages of touch typing? It significantly increases your typing speed. When you don’t have to check the keyboard, it saves time and taking notes in class is much easier. I've noticed some people who ‘hunt and peck’ still type relatively fast too, but generally touch typing is ideal for maximum speed. Any way to save time is good!

Furthermore, touch typing takes some stress off of your brain. With practice, it becomes muscle memory and you can focus on the content of the task at hand and not on searching the keys. Having no experience in the professional workforce, I can only imagine how important this must be in the large number of office jobs.

There are many places online to practice developing this skill and test your typing speed. Can you touch type?

Take care,

♡ Joanne
